"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I've been interested in video editing for a long time but just never had the means to do it, not when I was in college and certainly not when I was 13. Of course, digital editing on a PC didn't really exist back then, but that hardly mattered as my family didn't even get a computer until I was out of high school. For a long time I burned with jealousy at the thought of teens & tweens having access to this stuff that I could only dream of well into my 20s. I still don't understand how 14 year-olds get their hands on quad-core PCs with Vegas or Premiere on them.
I don't feel like I should be getting too old to enjoy this stuff, but a simple look around suggests otherwise and gives me pause to reconsider, especially when 25 seems to be treated as old here.
Really don't know if I said what I really wanted to with this post but it's something that's on my mind now and then these days in regards to lots of things I enjoy.

I have no argument against your cynicism theory, in fact most likely you are exactly correct on that part of it.Vivaldi wrote:Though this does lend credence to my cynicism theory.

Dude talk to a 13 yr old then tell me that lol....Vivaldi wrote:The most importance aspect of the internet is anonymity. To not bother with whether the person you're talking to is young\old, fat\thin ect. If you find conversation stimulating, then it doesn't really matter how old a person is. That, plus I'm against developmental absolutism anyway.

should really read entire threads before posting
and chii never ages either lol. I only wish I was like that *picks up lower jaw off the floor*wurpess wrote:Anyway, yeah, age. I agree with the whole 'I think this hobby is far less age-discriminant than some people may assume.' At least in my dealings with people here. Yes, the 'inner circle' is generally older, and the people posting random vids seems younger, but as for active members, it varies, and age cannot always be determined until you talk to them. I remember dealing with peopl I assumed were at least 18, possibly even in their 20's, then I talk to them on AIM/MSN, and find out they're, like, 14. And I'm like, 'WTF?!' Then there's the 'I just turned 18' and 'I'm not old enough to get into a strip club' convos. 0.o So yeah. Drunken rambling. But in short, yeah, I feel a little odd sometimes 'hanging out' with teenagers when I'm pushing 30. But hey, as long as you're not trying to have sex with them, I think the same logic applies with the people around here that does with food. If your enjoy yourself, does it really matter what's in it/how old they are?

It only matters when we have 13 year old upstarts running around on the org.
Other than that, I don't see why people should bother. This is the internet. Mature kids and immature old men do exist in the world.

It doesn't bug me as to their age, as long as they don't behave like the typical 13-15 year old...then I'd start to get annoyed. Still, you learn to filter out the crap over time...

Well, you sound to be about my generation (a.k.a. X), so I can assure you that there are people of all ages here because, at the end of the day, we're all interested in AMVs. It's not our fault if AMVs as they exist today weren't around when we were teens. Heck, I was interested in anime since about age 10, but I never got "involved" in anime until the Internet grew up enough to allow me access to it, which was at an age far older than what most people nowadays first get into it. "Kids" these days only seem to be getting a massive head start on us because they have all kinds of things we never did. Yah, it grates sometimes how much of a head start they have...but...good for them. When I was a teenager there really weren't the kinds of opportunities there are now to aggressively pursue a hobby like AMVing. It's an amazing thing and one that's fortunately open to anyone, regardless of their age.Undo wrote: I've been interested in video editing for a long time but just never had the means to do it, not when I was in college and certainly not when I was 13. Even though I'm not too old, I thought the same way you did. Most people nowadays have internet access, so there are much more possibilities of teenagers joining the forums than older people (that may happen, but not at the same rate). Technology advanced so much in so little time. That doesn't mean, by any way, that those ones won't stay or that older people will join anyway .DriftRoot wrote:Well, you sound to be about my generation (a.k.a.
