Is your opinion that they are always wrong no matter what, or that they are done wrong so often you don't want white flashes to be suggested to people who will also probably only use them wrong? And why white flashes but not black?
My opinion on flashes in general (no matter the colour) is that, while there are places to use them, it's probably also true that it would be possible to do something better to sync in those places than flashing a colour. Of course, in a few places a flash might be just the best choice, but that is quite rare...
I'm not Prodigi, but I would believe that his motive is along these lines, and I feel like backing his suggestion up anyway.
I'd also say to suggest not to randomly abuse masks or lip syncs. If not used fittingly, they just kill the video.
Pretty much nailed it. There are times when yes the white/black flash is totally acceptable, but really sparingly. It also helps if you add sum glow and blur. At least that's how I do it :ying:

If you're using white flashes more than twice within a 10 second period you're doing it wrong. Once again that's just my opinion. There are exceptions to the rule, but in general...

And in regards to the black/white difference. I find black to be far less "omg my eyes have been raped". Hence why quite a few of my earlier videos did have some black flash/beats.

i think red and green flashes are the best, and should be used several times per second.

Okay, I read the guide.

And I kept thinking every time it said "With this instrument, there are a few things you can do," No. 1 on the list would be internal sync, i.e. use a clip with movement within it that syncs with the sound of the instrument.

For example, if you have a series of drumbeats you want to sync to in your DBZ action vid, see if you can make Goku's punches land on the beats (bam, bam, bam, BAM!).

It's also good to sync internally with a clip that looks like it might make a similar sound to your instrument. For example, if you have a cymbal clash, showing two swords clash with sparks flying might be appropriate (in context, of course).

Personally, I think this is the prettiest way to sync; it allows for a lot of variety, unlike stock effects.

Is that too advanced for newbies? Maybe you could just add an internal sync section for more advanced readers? (If you ask me, people should be introduced to this concept ASAP.)

Also, I think "Vocal Synch" or just "Vocals" is closer to what you're talking about in the "Lyric Synch," section, since you're only dealing with the human voice as an instrument and not the words being sung (lyrics).

"Make something happen" was sort of supposed to get that point across, but I can see why it wouldn't.

Thanks for the input, and I'll change the wording too. I did notice the repetition. xD

Here's the entire sentence for reference:
In this case, unlike the literal translation of a lyric into video(such as the song saying "He ate an apple" and you placing a scene of someone eating an apple there), you concentrate on the human voice being used as its own musical instrument.
I agree, that is Vocal Synch. Lyric Synch should be described (the apple example used is pretty good), then Vocal Synch should be defined and contrasted. The section is actually fine, just needs a change of terminology for clarity.
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image
