How about this. . . We think of AMVs as "Fanvids". Then, when someone starts getting paid to make AMVs, then we start calling it "Art". Until then, how about we just avoid the subject entirely ^_^

Conclusion: forget about the Art matter, focus in the Chiikaboom interview, stop spamming the thread and just go and watch some AMVs.

Are AMVs art?
I unno. You tell me. This conversation has happened multiple times and I've never found a good damn reason to read through it.

LOL this episode of the Lip Flapper seems a lil controversial xP
Still nice read though! I've always been a fan of you Chii and it's great getting a chance to know you're point of view and AMVs. Even though you've been editing for so many years, you still stick to the root reason of why you edit and I will still continue to look up to you!

Pretty much agree with chii 100% with everything she says. I'm sure you know this chii, with all our late night talks/rants.
Your one of my favorite people to rant too, This is the love we share LOL
I could say my opinions on the whole art/editing to animes you never seen/ the org community. Though I wont start a fuss.

This x1000. And...for also not taking editing so seriously. Which I seen so much lately.CodeZTM wrote:
Honestly though, edit whatever the hell you want. Dont let people tell you how you should edit. When people offer advice, dont ignore it, but dont take what anyone says about your videos to heart. Dont stress about trying to be a good editor, just edit what you love and you will naturally improve over time.

and I guess to put my two cents in... I am a huge anime fan and usually make videos with anime I love, but I also enjoy artistic videos with deep concepts and whatnot. I don't think it has to be one or the other, in fact I think there are many artistic and deep amvs that are also made because of the creator's love for the music/anime combo.

Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
Besides Kazemon and Bashar's comments, Shin admits to editing with anime he dislikes/hasn't seen, siny says its "more" fun, and Code says its something editors "should" do from time to time. Maybe I read too much into it since i've always thought editing with anime you enjoy was the standard? Which is what i thought was the point of amvs. -shrug- Thread comments aside I still know of several people who edit for the same reason you do, and because the org is still more focused on the video/technical things and less on the anime is why I still feel like the minority. Or maybe i'm just old fashioned? ;pIleia wrote: Even just in this thread, you're so not in the minority, I'm not sure where you're getting that idea, aside from my one post. :p
Its too late THEY'VE ALL BEEN FLENDEDShin-AMV wrote:will someone please think of the aardvarks!? ;_;
Ehh I dont think its 'controversial'. I try to not bring up the whole amv =/= art thing but it was kind of difficult considering the point of the interview. Besides i'd like to avoid drama at all costs haha.SheeGee wrote:LOL this episode of the Lip Flapper seems a lil controversial xP
Thanks everybody for the comments though! ;^; brightened up my day ^/////^

Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
I've been bemoaning the lack of emphasis on anime here for years. Most of my favorite anime-centric editors are long gone and I miss them dearly. I'm glad you found a place on the tube and that you've continued to enjoy the hobby for so long.Chiikaboom wrote:The fact that a person like me who loves anime and makes amvs and wants to see her favorite scenes to good music is such a rare thing here makes me wonder why this site is called animemusicvideos.org.
The org as a whole gives that impression. Each time there's a thread about 'motivation' you get people speaking up for both sides - but most of the time you can clearly see that the ones doing it for the love of editing are the ones still posting vids here, while the ones doing it for love of anime are either retired or mostly sharing on youtube because that's where the anime fans are. This thread has people speaking up in agreement since she broached the issue, but I bet even the ones agreeing with her are feeling twinges right now. I know I'm feeling a twinge of hopelessness for the org because when one of its own accomplished editors is saying the tube is a better place for anime fans, then there's not much future for the org as an "anime" music video community. It's depressing...and quiet. The org is too d*mn quiet these days without the rabid fanboys and fangirls bouncing around the place. Yeah, they're annoying, but they wake the oldtimers up and breathe new life into the place, and the hobby needs that. In my opinion.Ileia wrote:Even just in this thread, you're so not in the minority, I'm not sure where you're getting that idea, aside from my one post. :p

Re: The Lip Flapper : Volume 19 - Chiikaboom
Nice to hear from Chii after so many years. I don't troll youtube as much as I should (and when I do it tends to be pony videos or for music) and it's cool to hear her views on thing hobby.
Personally, since most everyone else has weighed in on this so far so why not, I would say rather then editing as a fan or for this 'art' or love of the task of editing, I edit because I'm a fan of AMVs. I got into editing because I wanted to put the same kind of videos I enjoyed out there for others to enjoy, and I wanted to see more of my favorite kind of videos. I suppose in a way I still want to 'hone' my technique and make my videos look better, but I do primarily edit in a style that is very much dated, or at least old if not actually old school. My favorite (and the ones I had the most fun working with) vids I've done do tend to be using some of my favorite shows, but I've done quite a few videos using anime I've never seen as well.
