Personally, I'm all for people using whatever they want - be it LP, DBZ, or both - as long as it's what they really feel is the right thing to do. Now, if you do popular stuff just to get more hits - that's kinda low. Quite often, this lack of real intention is easily detectable in the vid.
In my AMV-making experience, it never even crossed my mind before or during the editing process that pretty much noone cares for my music of choice. It's not my job to lure in the viewer with musical cotton-candy, it's my job to take music that speaks to me, anime that speaks to me, and combine them into an AMV that speaks to me and perhaps to at least a few of its' viewers. End of story.

I am not saying that you should use songs and groups that people never heard of. I am not saying that you shouldnt use LP. Songs like Crawling and In the End are used too often. You can all look at the Most used charts on the home page. LP And DBZ. Eventually we are going to end up with DBZ AMVs and those two LP songs everywhere on the site. Then AMVs will be lame and dull because no one will watch them anymore. Why?... because they will already know that its gonna be a DBZ video with a LP song

To go back on topic - remember the ultimate response to the last "no more LP/DBZ" - SS5_MajinBebi's "The Freedom to Suck" concept. I think that pretty much sums up the whole 'controversy' here...

Yes! The freedom to suck, I definitely remember that. Or, the freedom to use a concept other people think sucks, whether the result is sucky or not (I'm still advocating that old songs can be used well, with the right twist - and don't necessarily suck). But even the vid ideas that do suck should be allowed (and *are* allowed, thank you Phade) so there's no point griping about it.

I missed the last debate over this issue, so I jumped on this one. The next time someone jumps up saying 'down with the old, in with the new -whether those suck or not' - I'll sit back and smile merrily. ^_^

Yes! I am beginning to see the light... People use Lp and DBZ use it because they want to... and when they dont know what they are doing........ IT REALLY SUCKS ASS!!! oh well i guess i can not tell you to "cut down on the Park" and i cant tell you to slim down on the DBZ... but one thing.... eventually you are going to have site dedicated to Lp old songs and DBZ AMVs fine with me... not like i have any power... so i guess if i cant beat them... JOIN THEM!!........

Ch', I really love that song. ^_~ And yeah, I guess you got it, 'the freedom to suck' concept. But just keep in mind that there are less than you think, the dbz/lp combination. People who do them get flamed, ignored, and generally treated like crap - so whether we say 'freedom!' or not, the ones doing it don't get support for their vids, they aren't really encouraged, and they usually fade into the background or change their approach very quickly. So the site as a whole isn't affected as much as you'd think. It's really not so bad. ^_^;
