My mom barely knows that I make vids. I came home from NDK 7 last year with an Asuka, and she was like "what's that?" And I told her that I won an award for making a vid. She was kinda like, "okay . . ." and that's all about my mom knows about the vids I make.
My friends on the other hand, are very supportive of my vids, and they're always the first to see them. We get together a few times a week, and if I (or anyone of us, as two of my friends make vids themselves) have a finished vid, we all gather 'round the computer (which can be kind of hard for everyone to see when you have 6 or 7 people in a small room) and check out the new vids. Seriously though, if I didn't have my friend's support when making vids, I probably would've stopped awhile ago. So thanks guys!

My parents are supportive, but they don't particularly care or understand anything about AMVs. I can't blame them, they have plenty of artistic likes that I can't fully appreciate simply because they aren't my particular cup of tea. Regardless, they never give me any crap for the hobby, which is a plus.
My younger brother thinks anime and AMVs are great, my older sister is more like my parents, supportive, but only casually. As for my friends, many are anime fans, and think AMVs rawk. Some of them have even started/attempted editing their own vids.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

When my mum drops by, I occassionaly show a good AMV (She likes 'em). Of my own, I've only shown my (only) romantic one. She liked Sappy Self Indulgance a lot.
My friends love 'em too. The select few I show 'em, anyway. I weed out the crap, and only show the goodness. That goes for actual anime, too.
Both my mum and dad are into sci-fi/Star Trek, so I'm lucky, I guess. (I took the whole family to see Spirited Away and LotR. Good time had by all!)

At first, Erich (my husband ^^) wasn't so sure about all this AMV/anime stuff..but then he saw how into it I was and decided "If you can't beat em..join em =P and got me my first boxset for Christmas about a year or so ago ^^
Then he co-created Trigun Tuff with me..
Then he went to AWA with me...(and cosplayed at that)
And now I've been told I will have to share comp time when our Bebop boxset gets here so he can make his first video ^^
so in the going on 2 years I've been editing..I'd say that he's gotten pretty supportive ^^
