I have no idea what the hell this topic is referring to, and I figure that if I make a statement, I'll just get flamed for it.

But...I'm confused. Isn't the music SUPPOSED to make or break the video?

Looking over my body of work...every video was made for the song. I didn't go from the anime to the song, always the song to the anime. I didn't watch Lain and think "Wow, what a great comedy potential!" I heard a few songs that could use scenes from Lain that happen to be fairly funny (in my opinion) songs.

Now, as for the music making the video overrated...well, I'm not exactly using the Top Ten Countdown for my music selections. But the four videos I did use more 'mainstream' artists for get far more hits. That's just obvious. I think my Incubus - "Megalomaniac" video sucks, yet it gets many hits, most likely due to the song choice and the fact that it's not DBZ to it (heh). I practically have to beg for people to watch my videos that use Man or Astroman? songs, since who except me and a few other random people know of them?

As for the ratings on my videos, well, the Weird Al Yankovic - eBay one definitely has a few straight 10 reviews, but they both like the anime choice and don't really mention the song. So.... :?:
Life's short.

I think its off.....because when i have lots of good AMV's in my folder...why would i want to loop just one? and all day? talk about playing out a vid.

There are maybe 10 vids i have that i will loop in a playlist....but not for hours on end...these are the ones that i like the best, so i just watch them more often then the crappy ones.

1-Good torture method
10-constant loop

these are lame.

Should be like.....
1-AMG poke out my eyes, it burns
2-"...and we are now all DUMBER for having listened to you...."
3-I'm sorry....i fell asleep...what did i miss?
4-do not open till Xmas
5-"what was that vid we used to watch all the time back in the day......"
6-"Wow....look what i just found in an old folder...."
7-I watch it to remember how i was when i was a noob....
8-i watch this vid every other day or so because it had a cool idea....
9-when i watch vids this is in my playlist...
10-this video will never get old for me....like bellbottoms and hippies.

just my opinion^^

As I said later in this thread, BMA, it wasn't so much about the song as it is the re-view system that bothers me.

Just be honest....it doesn't use technically advanced effects, so it shouldn't be so high ranked according to you. Since when did techniciality become overallity? :|
I don't care as much about effects as I used to...my favorite vid of all time, Center of the Sun, uses no effects at all except fades. I'd be the first to say Toushi is a damn good video. The reason I don't think Toushi should be number 2 is because while it still has good editing/effects usage, I know their is better videos out there that deserve that spot.

If your asking about somones opinion don't be suprised if you get a long responce. Since like hte normal opinions people go about the same things in different ways. Fine i'll keep this short.

Your problem comes from you lack of realizing that other people approach things different then you do. It is out of your capability to grasp such a concept as perspectives. This leads you to act rude and ungrateful to those who are trying to answer you.

Amen, Sephiroth! I thought your post was insightful. Just because it was long doesn't make it's point invalid.

Anyways, I only download vids to songs AND animes I like, so I know I'm at least guaranteed to like the song. That's just the way I am. But what I mainly rate a vid on is editing and overall theme. If it just looks like a buncha random pics thrown together, then blah. If the editing works with the theme, and I can get totally drawn into another world, then wonderful. I noticed that very few AMVs can do this with real fancy special effects...for me, unless they're done right and they have some point in the vid, effects can kill what would have been a good vid. I know if I ever use effects, I've got my own special reasons and stuff behind them.

Another thing that gets me is when people smack an AMV really bad because it has subtitles. Ok, I can understand a little bit of a downdrop, but hey-- some of us are trying to put ourselves through college, and don't HAVE the money for DVDs or Premier. I've said this in other threads, but I'll say it again. It's like saying only rich people can do AMVs. This site specifically says it's for ALL AMVs, not just DVD AMVs. So go ahead and dock it a little for subtitles, but don't automatically say it stinks just because of that.
