Hooray! AMVs are now old enough to drink! I say we get take the hobby on a whirlwind bar tour, get it to drink until it passes out, and take compromising pictures of it with a stack of trek slashfic!Vlad G Pohnert wrote:Anime Music Videos are about 21 years old now... 1983 is about the time that the first AMV(s) started to emerge...

Funny..... I was contemplating doing a panel about such at thing at AWA... though focusing on Japanese AMVs done by the companies themselves. Matt, think anyone would want to see this? Gotten enough sources for an hour's worth at least. *shrug*
I'tll probably get the same reaction that the other oldies panel someone mentioned got... but still....

Ohhh. Yeah, I'm interested. How much would be talking, and how much would be showing vids?Darkseid wrote:Funny..... Hey now, remember the only event that got the VAT up to the "standing room only" capacity was the AWA retrospective. 7 and 8-year-old vids were being shown, and people were coming INTO the room in droves.
I've mentioned the "AMV archaeology" panel to you, right? Rich and Vlad, you know I'll be tapping your expertise for good pre-AWA vids to show, right?

The question of art is a rather odd thing.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:I disagree - there was a lot of genuine appreciation for the quality of the old videos. In fact, I almost felt the session was getting less interesting as it went on. Not, because of Matt's choices but because of the newer videos lacked a little of the untangible magic that the older videos had.
To ask picaso what he thinks of modern art (that he no less inspired much of) he might say "what is this shit?".
The magic is lacking because you where around to feel the magic of "the first time".

I not disagreeing that there is no appriciation or any interest. BUT most of the newer fans that watch AMVs tend to look at the older ones as less interesting.... This is no different then old movies.. Yes, people still watch them and appriciate then, but the general masses would rather watch more recent stuff that they as cool and the "in" thing.... It's the same thing in music.... Call it a "gereration" gapAbsoluteDestiny wrote:I disagree - there was a lot of genuine appreciation for the quality of the old videos. For myself, I agree with you on the the magic stuff
