Almost everyone I've caught taking clips has been female. The few guys I've caught only took one scene (the same scene). I think it depends on the type of vid you make. Mine tend to be aimed at a female audience, served by female editors, so the thiefs are naturally female. After a while, I just stopped downloading vids that probably used mine as fodder. It's probably easier to ignore/accept when it happens in a broad genre where there's enough originality to hide the copies.

/sidenote - It's funny that 'Beldandy' was mentioned as an example of how 'morally good' female editors are supposed to be - the first member I caught using my vids exclusively had a version of 'Beldandy' in her user name. ;p

I remember her... >_>
<_<

Anyway, I think more females steal stuff than males. A lot of femmes I've encountered are either "Well I don't want to crop out the subs because you'd cut off some good parts of the anime"(wtf? It's like a centimeter!) and they "Don't buy it because I can easily get it for free." So when faced with either subbed stuff or an already edited AMV, guess what they chose?

Sometimes people will just steal from AMVs because they can't find the anime. A lot of times I've seen them to just get the anime from the AMV, not to intentially take all the cuts and edits with it(although that is a plus, like when cuts in the original anime match your song).

On a sidenote, I actually found a girl say this about Otakon: "I don't understand why they botered showing that stuff in the anime showrooms, you could just download it anyway"

Despite how stupid med are, I'd have to say that as a whole, especially for anime fans, women are stupider.

It's not? Well, hot diggidy damn! www.dictionary.com must be on the fritz because it tells me stealing is "to take or appropriate without right or consent and with intent to keep or make use of". You bought the anime DVD, not the rights to the anime to do whatever the hell you want. lol

Theft applies to physical things, which AMVs are not. This is piracy or plagarism, depending on your take. Theft means that you take something and physically deprive the owner of it. That is not occuring here, so it is not theft. Q.E.D.

Walks up to the stand: I suppose... I think? lol

Yes I was recently ripped off by another female member, but genders dont really matter in this... it all comes down to laziness... (plus I donno if age can be a factor in this: but I know I was a moron when I was a kid, she was only 13)

I can almost tell by just looking at the listing if I am being ripped off, it seems... I find it something of a compliment, and I usually leave them a really long detailed comment about how they shouldnt rip off people because it will piss people off...

I usually dont mind if they make their own edits but when I can turn the volume down and sing my AMV and it goes straight through, then that is just laziness...

I am not going to get into piracy, theft or plagerism (sp?) because thats a silly argument that has been going around way too long (pokes the dead horse) but it is striaght laziness... and like Castor Troy said it does mean you made it. its a feeling of accomplishment because it means someone liked you enough to rip off your video... lol

ah well.... I dont stress it as much as i used to... I just have a perverse pleasure in leaving ops on the videos that use my edits..

*cough* I meant the original anime/manga Belldandy, image of holy motherly womanliness to generations of fanboys. Any resemblance to lame teenie clip-copiers is strictly coincidental. ;P

I have learned from this thread that women are a bunch of rotten bastards, and are not to be trusted.
