from our favorite forum user:Flint the Dwarf wrote:Really? In my three years here, and few years watching AMVs prior, I don't think I've encountered one person who cared more about how long it took to make it. I find lots of people that don't know much about AMVs to ask that question almost right away, but I don't think they use it as an indication by which to measure the video's worth.Cornwiggle wrote:This is annoying.
There are some people who seem to only care about how long it took you to make a vid, rather than the actual video itself.

Nearly every celebrated marvel of artistic achievement in human history took countless hours to produce. From the Notre Dame Cathedral, to the great Pyramids, to the Crazy Horse Memorial (a project which may take another FIFTY YEARS to complete). Even the anime series that so many of you rip apart to make your "art", some of it took DECADES of artistic creativity and work to produce the final results. TIME DOES EQUAL QUALITY. Anyone who thinks otherwise is most likely an ignorant fool or young and inexperienced.

i took an extra long time on the toilet yesterday because i ate something that gave me indigestion. by that logic, if i were to call what came out as art, it would be better quality than what usually comes out.

Hm...this thread could be one of those 'what factors contribute to a good video', and whether some factors (like time) change things independent of the other factors.
Time, in the absence of experience and/or technology, = better quality than a lack of time in the same situation.
Can anyone argue with that? Given time, even a newbie can experiment and pick things up to make the video better than it would have been (lack of experience). Given time, anyone can compensate for a lack of technology by experimenting with complimentary programs (ex: using vdub to make a multi-track video in wmm).
On the other hand, experience + technology = less time required for the same quality output. Whether or not extra time would make any difference depends on the creator.
For some videos, no matter how long I keep looking over the project, I won't change anything after I decide it's finished. In the worst case scenario, the more anal changes I make aiming for 'perfection beyond my it's complete decision' the worse the video looks. That's just wasted time right there.

Ppl, as they get smarter get really pickey about what videos they watch. Just because the criteria changes it doesn't change the situation, there have been... EVERYBODY puts some kind of criteria on what videos they will watch and what videos they won't be it it's been to cons, it's by creators the person knows/ likes, it's been worked on/ betaed, it's got comments/ it's not wmv... whatever, even if it's just that you don't have time, NOBODDY's PHISICALLY OPEN to watching every video on this site, it's just not possible. So to say we're not pickey is just a bit naive.
Yes, I am pretty much guilty of all of the above btw -_- I will not watch a video if said creator spits them out every few days. Spend a month at least! I mean with all the synchs demanded of a good video and it's always nice if you get some betaing... at least a little as you get spoiled of your video before you even export it. A month is good right?? I mean, that's not too much to ask.
/is a picky bastard

you should ignore stupid people.
The time it took doesn't mean anything. There's a video of mine that took several months, because }I barely ever had time to work on it. So in many months, few hours.
Besides, sometimes people just spend a lot of time cracking their heads to figure out how something works.
good videos are good, and bad videos are bad. Period.

My personal favorite video of mine took less than an hour to make. If I had spent about 5 more minutes on it I would have been able to correct the aspect ratio on it :/ But other than that, the video does exactly what I want, from beginning to end, and is totally perfect.
However, it is my video with the lowest star rating, so my opinions and he opinions of the masses are far different. But that's expected.

I hate that....oh well as long as you like it, that's what should matter.badmartialarts wrote:My personal favorite video of mine took less than an hour to make. And look at it this way. You can only see the stars if you donate (or on days like today) and there are quite a few people who don't donate so they don't have the stars to really go by.
