I can't believe I'm bothering, but...
Audience members may be sheep, but even sheep get it right, sometimes. Further, if they're all idiots and vote stupidly, thus honoring undeserving videos, it would be true that videos that win at conventions do not deserve to win. This is just not the case - videos that receive awards may really deserve those honors - regardless of what peevish AMV editors think who believe their dipped-in-gold artiste's vision is just too sophisticated to be appreciated by the rabble.
Please don't slap a "YOU SUCK BECAUSE EVERYONE LIKES YOU" label on award recipients just because they won and you're feeling whiny. Bad, bad idea. A better idea would be to try your hand at making a crowd-pleaser, win an award and prove your point. If it's that easy to make fantastic crap, then go for it.

I do like your approach, but remember one thing. Don't cross the line between fanatic and terrorist. There is no 'Anime of the week' it's all just opinion. Popularity is a fact of life. Originality does not DIRECTLY apply to how many TIMES it's been done, but how WELL it's done. Say somebody makes a better wheal... are you gonna blow it off just because it's been done?? Sure Shaquille O'Neil (a TERRIBLE three point shooter) can show off by tossing up 3 pointers. That won't make him good though. What makes (~made~) him good was his presence around the net. He's better when he keeps doing what he's GOOD at and not when he innovates.

I do ;p You know why?? cuz I don't really like Anime (therefor I don't dislike it either). Don't like music so much either, I just really like computers -_-. I just wish there were more people like me around here lol. but it shouldn't be that hard to findcode_chrono wrote:Judges and members of the audience both have their prefrences. If they hate Ouran Host Club, they are not going to vote for it. I know from experience: Anything that has Berzerk in it automaticlly meets my recycle bin (except that segment in AMVH3). What you need to do is this: find a well-balanced team of judges that love a vareity of things. Then again, that's way too optimistic, huh?
Am I biased though? sure! just not in my amv preference. For instance I hate the use of mp4s and mp3 audio (basically everything, I'm very picky like that) -_- that's a bias. But it's not something that's gonna prevent me from seeing what's going on.

1. Most of the time they suck because they suck. People with taste and know about editing can tell you that.DriftRoot wrote: Please don't slap a "YOU SUCK BECAUSE EVERYONE LIKES YOU" label on award recipients just because they won and you're feeling whiny. 2. It's been done a few times before. If anyone wants to admit one of their "contempt for audience - and done to prove a point" videos was just that they can (and should do so in this very thread if they're so inclined). I can point to a few that are most likely that kind of video.

Also, DriftRoot - Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes a shitty video is just a shitty video. I'm fine with crowd-pleasers that are executed well, but what I don't like is crowd-pleasers that are executed INCREDIBLY POORLY and then still win because they're crowd pleasers. See all of Bakuretsucon's contest this year for stunning examples of this.

you also gotta understand that videos presented in conventions are presented in a different mannor than on a TV or even on a computer setting... so they CAN look bad even if they are good... and vice versa...
so yea :/
plus audience will always go for concept over style... unless the style is really awesome then it becomes a concept...

Audiences are full of shit, this isn't news. What people aren't really talking about is CREATORS are just as full of shit as the audience in their own way. Most of the people on this site are fans that happen to make videos, not the other way around.
A solution to these types of threads is to just NOT submit your videos to trashy conventions. If you think the judges suck, they probably do. Most of the time your being judged by people who never made a single music video, or have made videos but failed miserably for years. That should be a red flag right there.
And then sometimes, people just get it wrong. It happens. Not EVERYTHING signifies and overarching trend. I submitted my 25 minute video to AWA pro and it didn't win anything, and thats being judged by other creators. It went on to win a VCA and thats being judged by mindless sheep. So go figure.

Videos like this revolve around editing AS content, rather than editing FOR content. This was probably the most interesting vid I ever made, on a creator's point of view. Apparently this is not the case on a viewer's point of view
So we have:
Viewer: Liking a sloppy video that contains an anime and song you're familiar with so you can infer a story.
Creator: Willingly burning your retina.
Yep, creators are just as stupid and narrow-minded as viewers in their own fashion.

....what a dumb topic. Like godix said, hobby, stop getting so critical. Stop bitching and go make a video, tell everyone it's the best for those reasons, then others will copy you, is that what u want? Or are u gonna shut up now and let us do what we want? I'v said it once and i'll say it a thousand times ... lets go smoke some pot
