For the sake of my own ego I choose to ignore the implied insult in that statement.AMV_4000 wrote:well both minion and sto are elitists... although their not good editors, they still act the part... same goes for a bunch of people... like you... decoy... hell all of RDS... they dont even edit anymore either!godix wrote:I was about to say 'the elites' or 'the good editors' or something like that but just as I was hitting reply it occurred to me that both Minion and Inthesto are in IRC regularly so nevermind.shinodude wrote: or an #amv person(wtf do we call you peoples?)

I'm elitist about certain things...but then again, I've kind of earned it. I didn't invest the past ten years of my life in the pursuit of technical and artistic knowledge, experience and understanding for nothing. So, yeah, I'm gonna take a lot of pride in the things I've accomplished, if someone's got a problem with that (and someone always does), *shrugs*, that's just it, their problem, not mine.AMV_4000 wrote:well both minion and sto are elitists... although their not good editors, they still act the part... same goes for a bunch of people... like you... decoy... hell all of RDS... they dont even edit anymore either!godix wrote:I was about to say 'the elites' or 'the good editors' or something like that but just as I was hitting reply it occurred to me that both Minion and Inthesto are in IRC regularly so nevermind.shinodude wrote: or an #amv person(wtf do we call you peoples?)
Bottom line is that there are only two kinds of people online...those who produce...and those who run at the mouth.

Well, that's your perspective, mine is that once you become one of the "best of the best" you can brag a little if ya want. Most of my personal bragging rights fall under web development st00f (in that category it could be argued that I am THE best), although I have to admit I'm a pretty bad ass video editor compared to most. I say, if ya got the goods...go ahead and show em off.Otohiko wrote:Elitism is not something you earn, it's something you invent for yourself.
I left? Oh, you mean on teh .org, meh, can't be everywhere at once. I'm goin to Sakura-Con this year so here lately I've been more active in this community...I don't ever submit my videos to the .org though anymore, you have to go to my site to see my st00f.Nice to see you back
Speakin 'o which, I should get back to work. There's only a little over 24 hours till the AMV contest submission deadline and I've still got 27 seconds left to edit on my new vid. This'll definitely be the fastest vid I've ever made, one day of clip harvesting and three days of editing. Here's a teaser:

Back on the original topic, if yer interested in joining a specific studio...just ask em. But don't take it the wrong way if they tell you they're not interested. I get a lot of people asking if they can come on board with me and help make st00f for my sprite generator:

But most of the time I have to tell them no thanks simply because they don't have the level of skill needed to make parts for it. Most studios, if they're serious about what they do and they truly love their art, they'll only accept you if you really have something to offer them. It's really not about the clique, it's all about the art.

I really like that, could I apply to join your studio? I think I would be a good fit. I love art and I think I have a very keen sense of design.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote: Here's a teaser:

I, too, think that video was amazing. I haven't seen anything on the org that rivals brilliance of this magnitude. This goes beyond art. This AMV I see before me is truly in a league of its own. BT's music is no match for the masterful juxtaposition of scenes painted into the video that make your talent scream as if you were the thunder god himself.DropOuter wrote:I really like that, could I apply to join your studio? The marvelous play of internal synching is met only by lip synching that would put the most talented rap artists to utter shame. How did you achieve the timing here? It truly boggles the mind. I cannot fathom why no real studio has been founded in your name, or even why no one has hired you professionally. You're clearly too good for them, and frankly, I think they're just intimidated by you.
I would also like to ask to join your magnificent studio, but I feel my talents are lacking supremely in comparison with yours. Instead, I shall sacrifice a hundred bulls to honor your triumph.

LOL, it's s'okay, there are a few editors I consider as good as I am (if not better), Kevin Caldwell, that guy who did the Naruto "Toushi" video, NMHK's "Eternal Damnation", various others. Basically I wanted to move beyond the "flash bang" style of editing so rather than relying on cutting animation bits or adding colored blocks/fades to the beats I try to match the animation itself to the beats, basically creating a video with no effects at all outside of what's already in the animation.
Here's a finished example:

One of my favorite editing techniques is what I call "frame skipping" or "frame jumping" where you take an action sequence and then advance it by 5 to 10 frames at each beat, it creates a kind of skipping through time effect.

Mmmm, it probably has more to do with the fact that I tend to act somewhat arrogant and combative, some people recognize the fact that I do so in order to try and incur incredibly harsh critiques (which I then use to further my work) but others wind up taking it REALLY personal like and then spend all their free time bad mouthing me at every other opportunity.
It's a choice I make, I essentially burn bridges to further my abilities. See the thing is, if you act real nice to people...chances are they're never really going to critique your work very well, they'll just tell you it's good or that they like it. By acting like an arrogant son of a bitch and verbally antagonizing them though you can incite the most hate filled, nit picking, uber level critique you can imagine...the trick of course is not letting it get to you, but to use that as a standard to which you can hold your work to.
LOL, right now I'm not really looking for partners, but in the future I am planning on attempting to achieve some rather...lofty, animation projects, at which time I will be seeking help, mostly people who have a significant level of skill in coloring/shading/lighting. You can learn the style using these tutorials (made by Getty):I would also like to ask to join your magnificent studio, but I feel my talents are lacking supremely in comparison with yours. The idea is simple...make an AMV using made for television anime footage...and then to recolor/shade/light every frame from scratch (retracing the original frames in Adobe Illustrator). It's gonna be a pretty big project though, one that I'll definitely need help with. I'll need people who have Adobe Illustrator who can trace over existing footage (doesn't require a lot of skill, but it's quite tedious) and then people who can do the coloring/shading/lighting. Probably I'll start that project sometime in 2008 or 2009. When I do I'll make a post on teh .org looking for people who want to join up.
