General No-No for AMVs?

that's where I insist on internal sync (sync made WITHIN the scene rather than just changing scenes or flashing the camera to the beat) rather than the typical external sync. It's pretty simple though, so much though, that we often IMAGINE we see internal sync where there really is none (or maybe it was put there on accident...), so basicaly if you get a sync nazi complaining at you, blame it on internal sync ^_^ always works.

No, great amvs can be made with Linkin park and Naruto or DBZ about those fights.. They just may be boring because we've seen it a thousand times... but that doesn't mean it wasn't editied wellsunwukong86 wrote:You can make great amvs with these as sources if you dont do straignt action amvs or use Linkin Park.Aria Mournesong wrote:

Should add Advent children or anything on the "most used anime/music" lists as no no's (Not that It'll stop me using certain new songs from bands listed :p )
The reason that the others always give for leaving subs in is along the lines of "But I wanted the words in there 'cause it's telling a story and, IT IS relevant to my video." now that defence falls apart when you point out scenes they have flipped (not sure how many of us carry a mirror around next to their monitors just incase some random person has got back to front writing in their video which we want to read. But also when you point out lines of subs which are totally different to what is happening in the video they just shrug and and say "Oh just ignore that part" hrrmm, I must say it's not "newbies" that are leaving thier subs in some of those people have been editing for at least 3 years longer than me.
For some reason seeing subs in videos has always iritated me long before I figured out AR and such.
I totally agree that there are times where subs are very appropriate, but not the lazy ass type we are talking about here. And the reason I say lazy ass is simple these other editors most of them here actually know how to cut out the subs but don't -_-
/end rant
Ok of all the editors in my state only 3 of us do not use subsJaddziaDax wrote: and I've heard tales of newbs that actually prefer the subs in their videos, but it could be them trying to make up for the lack of knowledge that you CAN get rid of them.

Truth be told, us regulars argue over this amongst ourselves all the time. I admit that I waver between the two extremes of reaction. Normally, if I have downloaded a video myself and have little accompanying reason for continuing to watch it if it has subs, or poor quality, or is encoded in wmv, etc... etc... I will delete it, outright, and won't bother to post in the annoucement thread. The exception being aspect ratio. I will "hate" you if you do not correct your aspect ratio, or at least acknowledge that it needs to be corrected once I point it out. If you ignore my constructive criticism so blantantly, I have little desire to contact you again.
On the flip side, I often will painstakingly go over every detail of a video if asked by someone who genuinely wants to get better. I can start off with a macroblocked, subbed, divx-logoed, wmv encoded, slideshow as long as the editor (or proto-editor in some cases) really cares about improving him or herself. Don't be afraid to PM me with questions or to beta or whatever. #amv-review is also always open.
I care about those that care about themselves.

It's ironic that some people can figure out how to cut out credits from someone else's video and claim it as theirs and others can't crop out subs. :/
I've seen some videos where the subtitles that were left in the video were appropriate. But the song and scene selection (lyric sync) already did the job well enough without the subs being there as a distraction. Makes it feel overdone.
