I generally don't care, but it would be really really nice if it was left out.

Watermarked videos with few exceptions (amv hell or parodies) = insta-delete.

I don't care if you are the next Kevin Caldwell. *Insta-delete!*

This is a remix hobby. The editing is only a small part of these videos. Surely someone else sees the hypocrisy in claiming copyright on such a creation...

I can understand not wanting people to plagiarize the effort you put into a video but water-marking is not going to fully prevent your video from being ripped off. People will either crop the video or post them with the watermark regardless. Sure, it might deter the you-tube noob, but it will also deter many more potential viewers.

Current thread tally:
  • For = 1 (post removed before I could submit)
  • Against = 14
  • Others* = 6
Are they worth it?

* = Uncertain, doesn't care under certain conditions, or just doesn't care in general

I also don't think there is really a point to watermarking
It doesn't really help preventing videos getting stolen since people
can just cut them off or blur them out.

I wouldn't auto delete a video that has one but I wouldn't be pleased to see it
especially if it was done in a real distracting kind of way.

Basically if you vid is not something like one of the projects mentioned, there isn't really a point to have a watermark throughout it.

I think it's a valuable tool in the fight against money counterfeiting.

I've had people steal my vids before. It's easy enough to tell, even without a watermark. In fact, one of them didn't even cut out my studio bumpers. Still, I wouldn't watermark my stuff. I find them a bit distracting and anyone who can use the crop function could still gank the footage.

Hmmm, can't recall my post right now, I only know it's gone, I know it was in favour, and clearly it was deemed unacceptable.

So I suppose I will go with "hey I'm all for stealing your work". Hey it can't be any worse than supporting watermarking can it?

I think I'll go and upload everything I've downloaded up to boochsack tonight, not give any credit, claim it was mine, even though it clearly isn't.

Well it seems in line with what is being expected.

I certainly wasn't allowed to suggest your work, your efforts, were to be appreciated.

Is any of the content of an amv YOUR property" well duh we all know the video is not and the song is not. But I personally think you should at least be able to say proudly, yeah I did this neat remix that everyone here clearly loves.

Hey, what did you think of my creation called Skittles? Ain't I impressive?
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

Have fun wasting your time. You can start with my profile if you wish.

If people seriously need to fake it to get popular with strangers they will never meet or just to have an impressive view count or rating stat, they certainly have bigger ego-related issues. And why should I care? As long as my friends and family know I made something, that is all that matters to me.

If it was really necessary to prove I made the video(sometimes it is...), I could always do so without a watermark. A screenshot of the timeline, or evidence that you have the project files while they don't. It doesn't have to be some annoying little graphic in the video itself.

Hell, what is going to stop the "thief" from watermarking your own video before they upload it. Obviously they are the original editor... they watermarked it!
