Now of course dvd is better (and harder to work with), it just depends how far you're willing to go for quality.
I agree, for licenced animes RAW footage should be the norm instead of fansubs since RAW footage is not only going to better visually, but also not have SUBS.

I'm not defending anything. You like to jump to conclusions a lot, apparently.

As I mentioned in another thread, North American anime distributors probably need to ramp up licensing and distribution, if digisubs cut into profits so much. The need to update or change their business model, or perish.

Dude, Phade's "Laws" are meant to be taken with a grain of salt :? If someone uses fansubs, Phade's not going to order the Inviso-Mod to that persons house and secretly format his hard drive or something  It's just advice to make everything look better and a little more legal, that's all. Where people really get pissed off is when someone outright rips scenes from another person's video.

[MOD999: Darn. Well, dismantle the Black Ops division then.]

[MOD387: Yes, sir!]

Unfortunately, for some of the videos I made when first starting out, there just doesn't seem to be any source available other than the ancient VHS fansubs I've got of them (the particlar series being Tekki wa Kaizoku! and Combustible Campus Guardress). I haven't even been able to find raw footage from Japan for these, which sucks because they're quite good shows and I'd love to be able to use them in future videos.

i agree with using fansubs only when they are exceptionally rare.

I agree also. There are some high quality fansubs out there. Plus, if you can get in contact with someone from a fansub group, you may be able to get raw footage from them. This is always nice because it will be better quality, and no hard encoded subtitles  I haven't done this myself, but I've heard other people say they have (I think iserlohn was one of them). As for the Mods....

I personally appreciate fansubs -- to a certain extent. i mean, if the anime isnt out in america, you can still watch it. But also, there are some "slite fansubbers" that cant seem to match the works words, sound, and picture together.

That's because SU was crap. The best Sonic cartoon was SatAM (the one with the freedom fighters) followed by the Sonic OVA.
