Well, I'm 17 now and I started browsing the org when I was about 10 to be completely honest. I didn't get active in the community till I was around 13/14.

Interaction with the org with different aged people, doesn't really matter in the end. What does matter to me is when I'm entering competitions with my videos; just feels strange and maybe even wrong to be winning against youngins... (or losing)

Since my last post apparently disappeared, I will say that I do find it incredibly surreal to see myself still here a decade after browsing the various AMV webrings and fansites that made up the community back in my middle school days.

Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee
Well, this is neat. I've got a mythology and a foe.
One: I find a lot of things about the AMV community distasteful, but that isn't the explanation why I have "all but left". I just have other things I want to do, and finite time in which to do it. Something has to give.
Two: Guess how old I am. Offer only valid for people who don't know the answer.
===
Three: I'd be interested to see an average age calculation using phpBB user data. This isn't the best dataset to use -- sample size may not be representative, the birthday feature is new in phpBB3 (I think) and it's definitely not a required (or verifiable) piece of user data, etc -- but it's a start.
Four: I think it's a good thing for the AMV community if the average age of people involved keeps going down. The influx of young people is also important if you want AMVs to gain societal and legal legitimacy. Also, for an example of the troubles that an aging, closed society can get into, look at Japan.

Translation 'I don't think anybody who's been here more than 3 years WANTS to be here, we just do... and elitism sucks'. Point taken.
