Re: Editors who put no credits: Explain yourselves!
My AMV came from my imagination.
But it would never come to my mind if I didn't know this fucking good music and this fucking good anime.
That's why I make credits.
However, for my last video, a various, I thought that putting the animelist is not that interesting for viewers. So, well, I'll just write anime titles if it's not too long hehe.
In any case, I like to do them when they're part of the AMV itself. If not, I made it because what I said earlier but it's not fun at all creating something which doesn't represent an idea but just an "information".

Re: Editors who put no credits: Explain yourselves!
Sometimes I feel credits are distracting, and other times I find them absolutely necessary. Mostly I prefer something short with no audio, so as to not change the mood from the main song, or credits integrated somehow during the actual video. Then again, there are those few instances where I like the credits more than the video itself.
So as an answer, I'd say don't include credits if they're not anything special or don't flow well with the video. In any other cases, those few second shouldn't hurt

Re: Editors who put no credits: Explain yourselves!
I almost always put credits. Only when I am remastering a video, mainly. Because the video isn't mine.
I absolutely HATE when people don't put credits on their own videos. I have such a specific naming scheme that if a video is called like video_out-xvid.avi and has no credits, I might not remember the anime, the year, the editor, or the title. Which is frustrating based on how I personally catalogue videos.
The only thing I hate more is when people put credits IN the video. No, no, no. Before or after, but not during, not unless there is some really, really important reason for doing so.

I don't care if someone steals my videos.
I also don't normally post my videos on other sites (though I have done it on occasion.) I primarily post my videos here, and if someone downloads my video from here, then they can clearly see all of the info on the video info page. If someone happens to want to post it on some other site... well... not my problem.

I've been meaning to get a credits sequence put together for years, but I've wanted to get pretty ornate with it. That's probably why it hasn't happened.

Not that it matters that much, but the die off in downloads isn't all THAT bad. I just checked my bandwidth used page, which also tells you # of times a vid was downloaded in the last year. My most downloaded video over the last year was made in 2007, it has ~60% more downloads than any of the vids released this year. There's a tie for second most downloaded, both of which were released this year. A video from 2007 and another from 2004 each has roughly 3/4 the downloads of my recently released vids. One from 2004 and another from 2005 both have about half the downloads of my current vids. The rest have trivial amounts of downloads, but most of the rest I actually changed the description to say they flat out suck and no one should bother downloading them, so that's not entirely surprising.DriftRoot wrote:This stuff, generally speaking, has an extremely short shelf-life. You make it, you release it...and pretty soon - with a few exceptions, and even then the clock is ticking - it's all swept away in the massive tsunami that is the creation and release of millions of other videos on the Web. Is it really going to matter a year later whether your name is embedded inside a video? Five years later?? Probably not, and chances are pretty good the video itself isn't going to matter all that much to you or anyone else, either.
I won't say older videos matter, but then again I don't think my current videos matter either. But older vids can still get a sizable amount of attention compared to current releases.

Re: Editors who put no credits: Explain yourselves!
I've made just one video, finishing up another very soon. It never crossed my mind to put credits on either one. I don't have the skills to do anything new or interesting with them and I think that's what people want these days. You know that you roll your eyes and expect the worst if you download a video and the first thing you're hit with are generic Movie Maker-esque credits. I'd rather avoid that debacle out front if I can. And at the end, well, I just like a nice, clean ending.
But maybe I'll come around to using credits sooner or later. I've never been bothered by anyone else's use of them, save for a handful of ridiculously gratuitous cases (this wonderful video and its entire second half not included).

Also without credits, how would I be able to dedicate videos so that the individuals can see their names on the video?
I am very proud of Kanako and Yuki. This is why Shadow is dedicated to them. I am sure they are happy to see their names on something. I know I usually am.

Simple black screen, last few frames, with white text. No "credit music" to spoil the mood or look more noobish.. and yeah, all that "outro" crap is pretty damn noobish IMO.
