I think I can recall it, but I know that I definitely didn't know what an 'AMV' or 'anime music video' was before 2000, and more than likely before 2002.
My sister would scope out Dragonball Z sites a few years ago when we were really into that. I didn't particularly like DBZ all that much anymore, but she stayed fixated on it (now, of course, she's moved onto Kingdom Hearts *exasperated sigh*). She came across Meri's site, and downloaded Traces of Insanity. I'm not sure if that was the first one, but it's definitely the one that stuck out. I really can't remember what I thought of it at the time either. I don't think I knew what to think. And I really had no clue what the thing was or why it was even made. One of the things I can remember, though, is telling my sister that the video would probably be downloading for the better part of an hour because we had dial-up and the video was a 10 meg RealMedia file.
Later on (in late 2001), I was using Morpheus to look up music videos, and for some reason was looking up Megadeth videos. Whenever I brought up the search for it though, another video kept popping up-Maboroshi's Sweating Bullets video. I didn't pay any attention to it, I wanted the real video, not this other one set to Escaflowne footage. A couple months later, my sister happened to download a Megaman X video to Ultra Mega by Powerman 5000. I kept that video around, along with the 3 or 4 MTV videos I'd downloaded before. Just after we'd gotten DSL that next Spring, I was searching around (or my sister was, I can't remember) and found Maboroshi's Information High video. I downloaded it, and slowly over the next few weeks started looking for AMV websites and looking for AMVs on Kazaa and iMesh. I got most of the notable ones from the established creators, and then by chance, one or two mentioned this site at the end. I don't know why, since websites stuck on the end of videos never really interested me, but I came here nonetheless. The rest, I guess you can say, is history.

I guess my addiction goes way back when I was much younger. The first anime that I had seen was Voltron, and sometimes I'd watch the old school Speed Racer episodes with my dad(Speed Racer was his favorite show).
Then when TV actually started to have anime on, but in the wee hours of the morning, I saw my first shoujo and shonen anime, I believe everyone knows what I'm talkin about(Sailor Moon/Dragonball Z). Later when Toonami came on, I got hooked on Gundam, and Tenchi Muyo later.
As for AMVs, the first AMVs I downloaded was from a site now long gone called Prince Vegeta's Shrine of Pride. But I didn't start makin AMVs until I downloaded a certain AMV from Aluminum Studios called "Blue Mercury" At the time, I loved it so much, I thought to myself, "Damn, how do he do that?!? I want to try it too!" And thats how it is for me.

AMVs such as that make me feel better after I've watched them. So my own vids have taken that route, happy stuff that supposed to make someone feel better after getting stomped on by life's unfairness.
Then you realize, hey, it's all good!

It's all his fault.
Basically after seeing what AMVs he was sending me and attending the contest at Otakon 2003 in which he was participating in...I was basically starting to feel left out. I signed up but the only thing I could do for the place was make banners. I had WMM to use but nothing but fansubs to work with. Then when Evangelion fell into my hands....the rest was history.

Well this is what got me into amvs
it might sound strange but here it goes. This girl blind folded me, and told me to go into the house and get a bannana. I dont kno why she wanted that, maybe she wanted to put it up somewhere or she was hungry. Well instead of getting a bannana from the kitchen, I went online and ordered a bananna, but instead of ordering it online, i downloaded a music video. All I could hear was the music, but then this ray of light came in, and I could see the anime and hear the music at the same time. Ever since then I could see with my eyes closed. Thats what got me into amvs.
Just kidding. I watched an amv from www.dbzwarriors.com (not sure if its around) and i luved it, and then i just told people that i made it. Just kidding. lol.

Mine isn't as...interesting as some of these. Anyway, about a year ago this time, actually, my friend was downloading some AMVs off Kazaa, and showed them to me. All DBZ ones, and not particularily great either. And I thought about the various video equipment and software I had laying around and finally, something useful to do with it all. Pieced together my first video(and the only one I have posted thus far), finishing just before AWA 9.
Mind you, I didn't find this place till a month after, so I had no real clue on distribution codecs or anything, and my quality standards were based on Kazaa stuff. I kicked the ass of all those videos my friend had downloaded though.
So now I'm into AMVs, working on one for AWA Expo showing, having finally learned enough to make a video that doesn't look like crap in final distribution. Having a Mac meant I didn't have so many options and control as PC users get for free. I manage though.
