I just use whatever's in my head at the time, so far I've used R&B/easy listening, gangsta rap, hard rock, dance.... about to go back to R&B again., mostly because the song fit a concept Iv'e had for a while. I listen to various kinds of music, so any AMV idea can inspire me sooner or later.

I like to use bands that haven't sold out, although I have used a few artists who are considered pop culture. It really depends on what mood i'm in. Sometimes i'm in the mood to do a love amv, and sometimes i wanna do a drama/action. Those are my 2 categories I focus on the most. That being said, Dark music is usually my forte. Artists like Tool or OneSideZero.

I'd like to think I've used a variety of music ranging from Jpop to angsty Radiohead to instrumentals and so on and so forth, but in the end always seem to end back at (cheesy) 80's music .
Hoping to change that with the next few vids, but "using different music" certainly isn't my motivation and come Otakon 2005, I'll return to cheesy 80's music at least one more time . It's a requirement .
If it's good and I wanna make an AMV to it, I do . As Beo said, why limit yourself? That also includes listening habits. I suggest people try and widen their musical interests. There is a lot of gold out there that most people haven't touched and probably won't because of their narrow musical tastes.
