Showing a character talking to someone without lip synching or having anything to do with the theme or music.

Okay, this one I have to argue you on. As Scintilla (I think) wrote, it may look really awkward at times to not have the characters talking. What if two characters are staring right at each other or something. It would look really stupid if they just blankly stared at each other for the whole scene. Sometimes some good old fashioned lip flap can do quite nicely. Heh.

Other than that, I think you should judge videos on a video-by-video basis instead of all videos as a whole. Not all videos are bad for the same reason, and some are good because of why other ones are bad. I dunno, I just think targeting all videos is a little...harsh.

I agree, there are exceptions to all of these. A really good editor can do all of the things I listed here and still produce a really good AMV. But most of the time, when I see these things, they are not really good

a bad video for me:

1: doesn't use any effects

2: does not understand the concept of a beat.

3: has a creator who whines about people who use to many effects

4: insert your own reason here

Well, some things that are listed as wrong, can actually work, but a lot of them annoy the hell out of me.

repetitive flashes of white or black.

Those worked quite well in both Jimmyen's The Last Love Song on this Little Planet and my Same Old Song. So it can just be a matter of style, instead of a fault.

When a single clip has the stop motion appearance, or when something that has been added in jumps position too much between frames.

I guess you have never seen Paul Kievits work then, his entire editing style is based around that sort of effect. Unless i misunderstood what you were complaining about.

One little thing that gets me is when one frame from the pervious/subsequent scene makes it in to the video right before or after the scene that was intended to be put in.

That always wins the price for me, i totally hate that, and eventhough it happens to me sometimes, i really try to get it right, my latest had one of them, and eventhough it's really short i only spotted it when i already uploaded the video, not even my betatester spotted it. So that is a bit of a bummer

I think I'll intentionally commit every single sin listed here in a future project. Just for the hell of it.
