Impressive effects, or a very good use of them, I would say Requiett's stuff, compared to something like Euphoria, which was rather.... disappointing, considering how much everyone praises it. Mood sync as well, something like Kevin Caldwell's Caffeine Encomium.
Or, failing that, lots of fanservice, you can't go wrong with fanservice.

I was totally dissappointed when I saw Requiett's videos, strangely enough. I don't count quick flashes as effects.

I was awed by Euphoria tho :?

If quick flashes aren't FX, why is my stuff being compared to Koop's? :? ?

For me, it's a lot of what other people have been saying.

Good picture and audio quality and how they present their video help.

Something that shows more effort than I can imagine putting into it.. (like these people who do 50-100+ hrs).

Non-tacky effects that are just "wow" on a technical -and- artistic level. But I can be just as impressed with a video that has non or a just a few well placed clips.

Videos that have a clear point or story--where the song connects well with the anime even if you wouldn't have thought so otherwise.

Videos that have a smooth flow and great timing. Every clip seems well placed.

If it can make me feel something--I'm fondest of humorous amvs that can get me to laugh or feel upbeat and happy but also ones that have strong emotional impact...

That and compositing jobs I could never even conceive of by myself.
That pretty much sums up my opinion right there. Although I also have a soft spot for story AMVs and I give strong kudos to those who do lipsynching right (matching expresion and charicter, not just lips.)

Those who capture the spirit and soul of the music are my personal heroes.

I LOVE Mvs with lots of effects or no effects. Timed really well and flow with the music/lyrics. And of course good video and audio quality. ^_^

I really was in aww when I downloaded Euphoria it was so amazing absolutely loved the effects used. It went very well with the song used. Had to go download the song after watching it. lol got me hooked.

And my favorite videos are from silver_moon and seirra lorna. Love your vids!! Especially Rainbow and Visionary!!!! The effects were amazing and I had to download the songs as well after hearing them cause I loved the songs as well!!. ^.^ love them love them.
