I think gender is only really importent when you start comunicating with someone on a more one to one basis, like being in a project or beta testing or whatever. In that situation you tend to pick it up from subtle clues. The only person I know that I have mistaken after geting to know them was Rose4Emily back when he had a really sappy avatar .

I would be willing to bet that the "5 minutes of Goku punching things poorly synched to an angsty song" videos are even more disporportionatly male created.
But really, guys get short shrift a lot of the time. As this site shows, guys are perfectly capable of making things based on "feelings" and "emotion" with nary an explotion in sight.
