Is that the common theme? I find that worrisome. If all the good linear editors quit because they got old, the only people left making simple videos will be the newbs. Then we really will have to say the only good (new) amvs are the ones riddled with effects. Yuck.
Don't get me wrong here I mean old timers by longer time members.

I would be a linear editor... I tried my hand at being an effects whore, but it just came out like poop. I'm proud of it, and can do better with AE and some more time and junk... but no, I get ideas too quickly. I have no time to spend time. I don't even sync half the time, people like me SHOULD die out *.*

Personally I just got sick of making and seeing the same old crap. The majority of videos on the org are teenage male fantasies about how they wish they could beat up people or how they wish they could get a hot women. Then there's the comedies that aren't funny. Those two categories account for almost everything in my profile. Add in the feminine wishing there were men who were sensitive, caring, thoughtful, straight, and interested in them and you have 99% of the videos on the org. Recently I've been doing weird experimental crap, at least experimental for AMVs at least. Which is why I haven't uploaded anything but MEPs for like a year. I mean why bother? The org is an audience that just wants to see a flash to the beat vid and I just don't care about getting validation from that audience.

So I won't say I've lost interest in AMVs but I would say I've lost interest in the type of AMVs that everyone else likes.

Oh, one more thing, just because it's my common rants and it is true:

AMVs are a hobby. The point of a hobby to enjoy yourself. If you don't like it, get the fuck out. Seriously. There is no one forcing you to compete. There is no one whipping you yelling 'Improve!' You are not obligated to learn how to whore effects, find an unused novelty song about tits, or whatever else you think is expected of you here. There is no reason to open premiere, or for that matter come to the org, if you don't like it. If you're sick of AMVs then go the fuck away already. If you want to come back later the org will probably still be here. If not, well, enjoy photography or drawing or editing queefs into songs or whatever the hell your next hobby is.

It's amazing how many people have said that over the course of this topic.

Actually, I've always been under the impression that such people are the kind who aren't jaded yet and are just doing it for fun. The process comes easier to them because they're not worried about things like technically "proper" workflow, competition, or the reaction of the general public.

Of course, most such people don't post much if ever on the forum.

What do you mean, "now"? AMVs have been pretty much illegal for years.

Again, that tone is not needed. Relax.

You miss the fact that I WANT to edit. That's not in question. It's how it relates to AMV's in particular that's the issue.
Yeah know what it is? It's the people. I sat down and thought about it and to be honest I have lost the desire to participate in a community that from my perspective has grown jaded and egotistical.
It's not everyone (not in the least), but enough that it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I've seen the worst side of the AMV community with my AMV contest work I do. I've seen the bitter, demanding, illogical, uncompromising idiocy of some people. I've watched perfectly nice people turn into total assholes, and it makes me sick to watch.
Honestly, that more than anything else is what the problem is for me.

I thank everyone for their input, and helping me to realize exactly what it was that was bothering me. I'm done with this topic.
