My pet peeve in AMVs when the creator only uses a couple of scenes from an anime over and over again. I find it repetative and redundent, not to mention repetative and redundent.

1. Subtitles since I awlays read them instead of watching the vid itself
2. Lack of sync. There are different types of syncing but if I can't see any of them it's a big fail then
3, The quality if its extremely poor. Square madness is not what i like to watch ;]

Optional.
4.Overused concept. If the video is really good I don't care about that, but if it's mediocre or poor then it looses a lot here...
5. Lip flap. If the video is good and lip flap isn't 70% of the amv then I don't care that much, but if the video is poor from the start and filled with lip flap it's a finishing blow then.

I see what you did there!

It's rare that an AMV can use repeated scenes well (and for a purpose other than filling space).

SpPANDA's "Session 02 - Because She..." 2002 version

SpPANDA's "Because She..." 2004 version

I have to list both because even though they are essentially the same video, there are some notable changes stylistically and in scene selection.

I thought maby you put both versions so that you could be repetative and redundent, not to mention repetative and redundent.... but thats a god video and IMO they reuse scenes in a good way... not like my Rollin Video... which as some of my friends would say... makes me question, "where ya at?"

as far as what kills the amv for me.. horrible editing... i can stand videoslike... well pretty much anything from sammy, with low quality and good editing... but if the editing has like tons of random cuts, long scenes, and popframes... it hurts to watch...

thats how i look at amvs, but when you have something that looks like 3 yr old scribbling, its art to a child... just not to an adult... especially when it was made by someone the same age... but yea, there is a point in which you have to stop caring so much about what anyone else says about your "Art" and just make it how you want to, good or bad... dosnt matter.

What ruins it for me is when it looks like someone just slaps a song over an episode, and/or when they lip sync throughout the whole video, or even most of the video

You mean when they don't edit the mouths? Or just pure lip synch videos?

When they edit the characters mouth movements to make it look like they're singing the whole dang song, I don't mind if it's 1 or 2 words but NOT THE WHOLE SONG that truly annoys me

depends on the adult... and their relationship to the child...
even a child can make art, they just arent as good as an adult...

though some adults make art that resembles what a child would make, and somehow thats "artistic/deep" (thinking splatter art...)

either way even arguing the semantics of art or not... when it comes to "video editing" there are some deffinate "do's and don'ts"

1. do use the correct aspect ratio (dont squish the characters or streatch them out)
2. disable the divx logo
3. dont use fansubs/if you do atleast have the decency to crop off the subs
4. dont use highly bitrated/distorted audio (unless youre Fall_child, and the song is supposed to be distorted like that O: heh)

those are things that people WILL bitch about weather or not the bother you, they will always bother SOMEONE... and if you dont want to hear them bitch, then take the necessairy steps to make sure you have those elements correct..

other than that, when it comes to effects/editing you have to "make your own style" and decide what it is YOU like
