For Friends... Yeah, I never get a big reaction unless it's a comedy video, or if it uses music/anime they are familiar with. For my own amv's, I can tell they don't understand my tastes, so it usually ends up with "neat" or "pretty cool" and we never talk about it again. Later, the ones that are somewhat interested would say "you should make an AMV using *such and such*" but I haven't come across anyone that mentions the editing itself.
For Parents... They are pretty straight forward:
"I hope you put as much effort into your education"
"yeah"
*stern look*
"okay then."

Hmm. Sometimes my mom randomly pop's up and asks me if that is my new 'movie', as she likes to call it, I'm working with. She've watched some of my convention videos at times too and she seem to like em. Though, my dad is, or rather was, against me editing atuff ya know. but since I've showed him some stuff and my knowlage and what other people think he've realized that I am 'good' at what i do. Anyhow, what I found amusing is that my Aunt was the one that could watch amv's and enjoy them. This would be since she's an artist, a painter, and apreciates all forms of art and video would be a digital art form. Her fav amv is Spoile (lol) mainly because she said it held up the colour theme and they followed the rules of colour mixing.
My classmates (having a friend or 2 included) know what I do and they think it's cool. though they think my Live Action videos or Gaming videos are better since they don't have any real interest in anime. though some of my friends that are anime interested do have some interest in amv's love my videos.
So, my mom has suported me through this pretty much all the time and my dad has started to. And they are suporting me now to get into the 'Media - video design' school im trying to get into now next year.

Ugh. It's kind of a mixed reaction with me.
First off, my highly conservative area in Arkansas things that anime (and the music videos by association) is a sin and is leading me towards buddhism or satanism or whatever the heck religion they can think of at the time.
What's insane is that most of my classmates here in college and even during high school had the same mindset. Granted, I have about 5 buddies that love anime, and love animemusicvideos as much as I do, but they's considered "weird" or "emo" or "gothic". Granted, they do wear a lot of black, but that's just because they don't like wearing bright yellow like I do to avoid that label (:P).
My parents don't like it, because they think I'm watching porn. Just the other day I got my School Rumble DVD box set in the mail, and my mother was sure it was porn and actually watched a few episodes just to try and catch me in the act. In fact, on two occasions I had to show them the content of the DVD's (before I was 18) to prove to them it was clean enough for me to watch. Ugh. No support on that front, I assure you.
My other family think's I'm just eccentric and will grow out of it in time, and even makes jokes at my expense because of it. As a result, most of the time when I have family over, I have to stash all my anime junk (DVD's, Posters, Hard Drives) in my closet, to avoid ridicule or unwanted conversations. It's not like I'm ashamed of the hobby or anything, it just makes my life considerably easier to do so. O_-

I don't have to hide it me being in California, nah mean!?
I don't see why you would put up posters when you'd have to take them down every now and then. I personally don't put shit on my wall. Nothing like white walls.
If I had a bigger place then I guess I'd place things on the wall.
NEway, have fun trying to learn new ways to deal with all that BS.

you don't have to worry about this a good chunk of the army is into anime, so a good chunk of them really wouldn't care, or would probably be into it. I live off of an Army Post.Jasta85 wrote:i'll be entering the army in about half a year and i probably wont be broadcasting my interest in anime as i dont want to give my men a strange impression of my right off the bat. i wont hide it if it comes up in conversationg but i wont be hanging posters in my office, (not that i have any posters anyway heh).

Obviously, their version of anime is a lot more interesting than ours...CodeChrono wrote:First off, my highly conservative area in Arkansas things that anime (and the music videos by association) is a sin and is leading me towards buddhism or satanism or whatever the heck religion they can think of at the time.
