True but sadly its still gonna happen, some people need to just not give ops if they arnt helpful in my opinion, but still just wanted to point out this doesnt really say if you think about the ones you give O:

I'd say there's a pretty strong correlation between those numbers and not getting anything useful said though - as if one was a representative indicator of the other.

CORRELATION DOES NOT MEAN CAUSATION.

THERE'S NO CAUSE AND EFFECT RELATIONSHIP BEING DESCRIBED. Correlation implies continued correlation just fine.

I demand to see the statistical data you are basing this correlation on.

I don't like giving ops because frankly, its very hard for me to not sound like a complete asshole and be truthful to what I feel about most videos I see. I could write up a big 500 word essay to shred a video but really, who needs that? Believe it or not, I'm quit the sensitive person, and I just can't bring myself to tear a video to pieces. Experience varies, time spent varies, talent varies, and (most importantly) people's AGE varies.

Its most brutal when you do an op exchange and someone gives your video a glowing review, says you inspire them to live a righteous life and give to charity, and you have to call their video the piece of shit that it really is. I'm not doing that anymore. If I was some tween on the other end of that I would burst into tears.

I still laugh when I get elaborately written reviews by people telling me "what I did wrong", as if anyone is qualified to judge something as subjective as AMVs, beyond the most basic technical errors like aspect ratio, and compression. Same thing goes for ops that basically say "good job, but here is how you can improve". Maybe I'm an arrogant shit, but I don't need xXMajinJuggalo420Xx telling me "how I could improve", thank you very much. I've always thought it was rude as hell, and demonstrates a very condescending attitude of the viewer. When I watch a video, I assume everything that I am experiencing has been deliberately crafted to be that way. How presumptuous can you be to assume otherwise?

I don't give ops for as much those reasons as because I'm just lazy. Those are some good points and yes, its never a good feeling to tear a video to shreds when the person who made it just gave you a blow job and...you know what? Bullshit. Sodomize the bastard. If they get defensive about a bad review (whether its wrong or not) then they didn't deserve a good review in the first place (whether the video was good or not).

The same goes for receiving reviews. So what if they get it wrong? They watched a video and gave you an honest impression of what they liked and didn't like. Who are you to say whether they are right or wrong about how they feel? If they tell you "how to improve" then thank them for their advice and disagree. Explain why and they might learn something. Bullshit or not, getting an elaborately written review means your video got someone thinking. Why get pissed? It's no better than reacting to trolls.

You're an amazing editor and I would never presume to tell you how to edit. But anyone who does is either ignorant and easily forgiven, correct (if rarely) and listened to, or trolling and simply ignored. That's my opinion. Feel free to disagree and/or tear it to shreds.

NO CORRELATION WITHOUT CAUSATION.
True story.
