Like many fansubbers these days there are a lot of AMV editors out there who just click the encode button and assume everything worked.

Quality Control has become something that is easier than ever before to do and AMV editors often end up failing to even do it.

Become a contest coordinator and I guarantee you will probably get a couple videos that have garbled output or solid black for their video.

I don't watch them very often for one simple reason.
While making them I usually watch them dozens of hundreds of times so rewatching it a lot after the video is finished is suicide.Plus,I know most of their mistakes before releasing them but I'm usually too lazy to correct them.

Still, there are times that nostalgy hits and I tend to watch my older vids. The ones I have made 5 years ago with Movie Maker. The good old times... :D

Guilty.
Often I watch my stuff to see the mistakes I made so I don't wind up making them again.

On the other hand, like FMS just said, I do watch for nostalgic purposes as well...My "Dewey's Independence Day" vid is prolly one of my favorite early vids

I HATE when I watch a posted video and I notice something that I missed before. (Like Pilaf is a little transparent in one scene of Wrong Way, Anime.

I watch my own work more than anybody else's. You can learn a lot from watching your own work. Things you did wrong, things you did right, what you have down, what you need to work on, etc. etc. The more you watch your own work the more you catch your own mistakes. I think it's one of the best methods for trying to improve ones editing.

I like watching others work to improve my editing. What better way to satisfy yourself than stealing style after style?? lol. No, I just don't see how you can improve upon yourself by watching your own work. I wouldn't be learning anything new if I watched just my own stuff so I watch others to learn new techniques. Some call that stealing others styles but oh well.

Really, just like you improve in sports by getting more involved in like school and stuff, I made 'better' amvs and was much quicker at them when I oped 10x+ a week. Getting you ideas out and refining others gives you inspiration big time. Too bad for me stupid life got in the way, but I suggest you try this approach if you find it hard to find inspiration.

Bear with me on this one, alright?

I haven't made my own AMVs, but I have made my own stories(no, not based on anime). I don't know if you'd wanna see them...it's called them including a certain fetish, very obscure one at that in this case. >_>

ANYWAYS, part of the reason I made them was because the type of content my stories include was virtually non-existent in other stories, SO instead of trying to request other people do this or that in their stories, I just made stories myself that I knew would contain this particular content. Thus, I can always go back to these stories for what I want. : ) So, in that way, yeah, I look at my own stories. Also, I do critique them to find what I can improve on for my next story.

Either way...I assume I could only be the same way with AMVs.

Hopefully that answers the question. : )
