For most of the people who have been doing it for just so long, or even for only as long as I have I think it goes to this: it doesn't really get boring. Every time I open my editing program and look at a half finished project, first I sigh then I start formulating all these ideas for what I could do, and it's fun for me. As was mentioned earlier trying to mess around with some live action is an awesome way to kinda stay in touch with the editing aspect. Maybe try to just do some abstract experimentation, whatever makes you happy...this is a hobby after all and some people just get tired of the time their hobbies take.

In my case I am still interested in anime for the most part, my collection is still growing and I'm still watching, so it helps.

For me, it's getting harder and harder to finish my projects. I don't know why, it just does. Been working on one for almost a year and I'm only at the half way point. Maybe I'm getting bored or just to busy with real life...or maybe even lack of motivation. But I do have many many ideas, I just seem to not be able to put them on video too well and it's a bit discouraging. But hey it's a common problem, just gotta work harder on it I guess.

Quoting for truth.

I must disagree with this.

Sure there are a bunch of fan pandering anime and manga, but there always has been.

But off the top of my head I can think of several anime, manga titles that have done something different and are not specifically catering to otaku.

Tokyo Zombie
Detroit Metal City
20th Century Boys
Pluto
Umezu is still making non-ordinary awesome stuff
Dragon Head
Shintaro Kago always makes stuff you've never before seen. (And it's really cool)
Cromartie Highschool (if a bit old... I wish it was still being released here)
There was a new anime released that was about an old lady who owns a bunch of cats.

Though these are very good and very different, they do not contain the massive amounts of moe and fanservice you typically associate with pandering to otaku.

Perhaps you just need to look a little harder and try to find new things?
OMG Detroit Metal City (the only one I seen) couldn't be more fanboy praise I'm sorry FC, but your obviously confused. Love Cromartie and I was just like "why are all these '4h/ moe' titles revolving around girls and ONLY girls, are boys just THAT dull, Cromartie was FUN!!" Bah, but like Eva said, whatever sells in this day and age. No, originality hasn't died just like PC Gaming hasn't died just like Baseball love hasn't died just like... EVERYTHING ELSE ppl like to over-react about. But there definitely ARE way 'too many' (I say this as if I don't buy it :/ but I do :P just like the rest of you) moe titles though.

The way I see it, AMV's are such a highly diverse form of entertainment with virtually no limitations.

As such, the time spent in this hobby could be limitless. I think when people understand this, they are more likely to stick around; whether it is to see the vast repertoire AMV's have to offer, or to expand on their own creations.

or:

"no matter how many amv's you've seen, there can always be something else"
"no matter how many amv's you've made, you can always make something else"

Now, do you always try to make Something else entirely, or;
Something you personally have never done before?

I think I'm more concerned with the latter, and that's what keeps me going.
/contradicts myself by making 20 action videos that are all the same.

If it makes of any of you people who think you may have lost interest just because you haven't produced anything in a while or because it takes a long time...I still haven't completed my own full length vid in around 4 years. There is one video that i've been picking at for around 3 of those years, and others that I've worked on here and there, but for the most part not much other then MEP tracks or whatever. I am just as interested in AMVs and Anime and all that shit then ever.
