lol, so true... done that before and instantly regretted it.

I always add credits to give credit where credit is due. The music will dictate how I attempt my set up. Usually I start if off with a simple title (name of the AMV) at the start of the song and a more detailed one (anime and song titles) at the end. No extra music for the reasons already stated.

Though lately, since it's a music video, I've been adding the credits like they do (or did) in MTV/VH1/Fuse etc.

I always do credits because I want to give credit where credit is due. I didn't make the song, I didn't make the anime, I want people to know what the awesome band was that I used, or the awesome anime. I actually really enjoy doing credits...it's one more place you can be creative with a video, and it adds a personal touch.

Think of movies like 300 or Iron Man. Maybe a little overkill, but really nice to look at. And a way of "making" the audience stick around and see who made the film. The credits for pretty much every Pixar film are a work of art in and of themselves.
But, we make AMV's, so do whatever you want :p

:P

Actually, what often annoys me with creditless videos is the fact that later on I can't give proper credit or tell people who made what, what anime is in there, or what song was used when I show the video to them at cons or on a personal basis. I have a SHIT TON of videos, and about 75% of them I did NOT download directly from the org, but instead I had gotten from vid trades with friends and my own copy habits from multiple cons and their own archives. So when a video I didn't download doesn't have credits in it (like many really old videos that were VCRtoVCR or LDtoVCR style) it can get annoying.

If that isn't a reason to add credits, I don't know what is.

I usually put credits after my amv, but in my "tears are from the heart" AMV, I decided to leave them out because I felt that it killed the mood. I really felt that the quote at the end of the AMV was so perfect that it should be the last thing that the "audience" sees before the AMV ends.

For me, it's a pride thing.

Specifically, I haven't ever taken real pride in the fact that I made AMVs: didn't start out that way, never really changed. I view it as something to be swept under the bed, a guilty pleasure that can't be excised. I do put my real name on other work, stuff that I can be proud of.

With all due respect to Fred Rogers, there's a point where his philosophy just doesn't work. I do not find it possible to be proud of something into which you have invested seven years and haven't won any official recognition. If things turned out differently then perhaps my actions re: this subject would be different.

This is the most honest post in this thread, which means it will be torn to pieces.

re: music and anime -- that is a valid concern, and I ensure that the musician and anime get credit in the video metadata, which is on this site.
