back when i was still active, i always found it easiest just to find people doing stuff similar to what you are doing, and just start talking to them. thats how i got PsP up to 12 people back in the day and Globocide up to 7 people.

Why audition for a studio when you can join CBR? CBR has no standards!

I feel that most studios are just circlejerks or promotion platforms. Sometimes when I see a logo slapped into my face before the amv starts I cringe and the whole amv automatically gets worse for this shameless douchebaggery.

(warning following text is my own opinion) Also that 'helping each other out' thing is something I never understood. Just as I don't understand beta-testing. If you can't figure out your own errors maybe you shouldn't ask for help because you won't get any better anyways.

Shui - I understand you don't get it. However it is always good to have another set of eyes to go over something. It is sort of like a proof reader before somebody publishes a book. To make sure there are no typos. In this case maybe you think you are hitting the beats, or you could be slightly off and you don't see it. That's why it is good to have someone else take a look first to make sure it is cleaned up.

If you can't hit the beats, then you have bigger problems. Mark the beats on the timeline, mark your transitions, snap together, receive bacon. But beat-sync is WAY overused a lot of the time, IMO. Try to be more organic and sync on phrases, or even sync AWAY from a beat every once in a while.

Or sync to vocal patterns. This is a sure-fire way to confuse a lot of people! I do it anyway!

Gene still has a point though, as far as other aspects are concerned. It's easy to spend so much time working on a project and being intimately familiar with every detail of a video that you don't realize that you've edited things too fast for most people to follow (or to connect to the lyrics), or you've made it too confusing for people who haven't seen the source animé, or things like that. That's when an outside perspective can be useful.

Much like mixing a song or writing fiction or many other creative endeavours.

That is so true. I mean I have the same experience while writing lyrics for music. Anyways like others have said here, you shouldn't join a studio because you feel like you have to. I'm just opening it out there to see if there are editors that I didn't know about, check out their work and possibly team up with them. This didn't need to go as off track as it did. If anybody wants to team up, make friends and work on some projects that's what my group is going to be for. Where trying to help improve each others skills, work together, and have fun while meeting new editors.
