How's for giving yourself an answer?

Our argument isn't just that something can be good with little time (and mind that it doesn't need Euphoria-level effects to be good, just look at Engel) but also (as you said yourself) that crap is crap regardless of whether the project is a century-old family heirloom.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

I think Hinano said it best.

This, for me, applies to the whole enchilada. Who made the AMV? How long did it take them? Was it a joint effort? How many Animes are in the AMV? Who else liked or disliked the AMV? Was the audio edited? What genre? Were there lots of effects? Lip Sync? How long is the AMV? What's the song about? What software did they use?
DOESN'T MATTER!

Well said Hinano, very well said.

comedy doesn't count ;p and if that was a serious video, I could point out quite a few things wrong with that still.

gepetto: My argument is not against the fact that time does or doesn't matter, but that everyone is saying stuff without realy backing it up with proof. If you want my personal opinion which is basically what everyones comments here are, just opinions, I'd say time matters to an extent, the more time you spend perfecting something, no matter how good an editor you are, (we are not perfect, there are always mistakes to be fixed or finetuned) the better it will turn out. However, we should not base the whole value of the AMV off of it. As everyone has said, if it sucks it sucks, if its good, its good. Time spent editing it, so long as the time is actually spent improving, and not something deconstructive, however still does play a role in how much of a chance that amv will have of being good rather than bad. And thats just my opinion on the subject.

yeah, that and I do appreciate vids with more time spent on them (unless it's just, like, to get a small point out... and I don't like shorts anyway -_-) It's not that I don't appreciate vids that seemingly just 'fell' together (as I and a few others pointed out, that does happen) but I can name more failures like that than successes.

semi-automatic maiden mahoro is one of my very favorite amvs, and it was made in 2 DAYS! (which is short for a good vid to me, really...)

You've got it all wrong. The thing that should matter most other than enjoyment when you watch a vid should be - "Have I seen this kind of shit before?"

All of the vids I have up right now have taken at least a week or two. . .except one, which took 5 hrs from concept to finish. That one video is my best one up there right now. (Granted with the POS's I have up right now, that's not saying much, but that one is the closest to being a decent AMV) But really, and even my b/f, also a creator, can attest to this. I work better on the fly when I don't think and just do, with everything. That's how that one came out. I didn't think, I just did. And I not only came up with something decent, but also quite profound and meaningful. (my brain does funny things when it works without me  ) But anyhow, long story short, it shouldn't matter how long it took, only how good the video is. Time and quality aren't always the same thing.

just enjoy the amv's -- who cares how long it took to make it? that has nothing to do with creativity. how can it?
