haha that is hilarious. ive definately had kids show me AMVs i know they didn't make and claim they did... I just ask for a few tips on how to use Macromedia AfterPremiere, and when they start giving me advice, i rest my case hahaNerdStrudel wrote:to this first one..i've actually had somebody steal one of my vids and then show it to me and say they amde it XDBasharOfTheAges wrote:I was talking with one of my roomates on AIM the other day and he divulged to me that some of his girlfriend's friends were really into AMVs and they ended up talkign about what they liked and what they had seen reciently. One of the topics of conversation turned out to be the last video I made - so my roomate ended up telling them "yea, my roomate made that" and they responded somewhere between disblief (thinking he was just screwing with them) and amusement. I'm thinking this could have been a lot more awkward if I was actually there.
So my question to you is this: Ever have someone randomly start talking up one of your creations without knowing it was you that made it? Or maybe they knew you were kinda involved in the hobby and asked if you'd seen this or that and it was actually something you did?

i've got 2 stories.
in a hotel room at jacon a couple of years back, someone mentioned
"that beavis and butthead dubbed amv at megacon should've won"
so i identified myself as the creator.
i realized that i should have had some fun with this, so i i made a note to have fun if it every happened again.
and it did. the next day.
after the amv contest, i got into a conversation with someone over how the drama and comedy winners sucked.
he mentioned that he loved the samurai x drama, and almost cried at the end (a grown man just told me he almost cried).
i said shit like "ya, that amv kicked ass. the creator is a god" and "if i were ghey, i'd bang the amv maker". he gave me a weird look after that last one, so i admitted that i was the amv maker, rather than letting him going on thinking that i would polish a knob

Yeah, um, not to be blunt, but those videos were both great. Especially Truly (the drama winner), which was one hell of a good Nausicaa video. Saying stuff like that on the forum just ends up sounding like sour grapes, dude.Minion wrote:after the amv contest, i got into a conversation with someone over how the drama and comedy winners sucked.

My videos only get watched by my friends, so no - although there's a lot of odd "That was good!" when I know a) it wasn't and b) they haven't seen the show I used, it's so damn sweet of them to try that I feel guilty. Like when you make something horrible and your parents tell you it's great because they want you to feel good. It's rough.
A different awkward situation as an editor: completely unrelated to my own editing flailings, a friend of mine got into AMVs through the WMM/Hosatchel/non-org/fan-first-editor-second school of editing, and while I'm excited that someone I know FINALLY shares this damn hobby, I am worried about actually watching some of her stuff. What if it's ...not that good? What the hell do I say? "Hi, you thought I was your friend and I'm going to crush your fragile little soul forever and make you hate me until you die. "
'Cause some people can take constructive criticism and "keep trying" encouragement, and some really, really, really can't.

Sarah! ha you reminded me...
speaking of friends that got into the hobby... after i did
my IRL friend got into the hobby and well her first vid was O.o but she was getting the hang of it... i really like her second vid, but it could be because im biased but for some reason i just really like it.... her third vid went back to O.o but its still very funny lmao... (blue blue blue.... hehe)
trouble is she keeps comparing her stuff to mine saying my stuff is better than hers and other random things... (thats where the awkward crap comes in...)
I keep trying to tell her that I just have more experience than her and thats really the only difference, so i tend to work faster than she does..
and im like "LOOK BITCH... " cause yea i can talk to her like that. "your videos are actually quite good!" she's got a sense of taste and timing... and shes just a beginner!! plus she started out with ripped DVD footage and working on a program that doesnt crash every 5 seconds :/ (the kinds of troubles i had to start out with) AND she has someone experienced to help her out... (i never had that... trial and error is so much fun on the org XD) so she is already, what i would consider, rather far ahead than most of those who are in the same "beginners" boat as her... (alot of youtube videos are a perfect example of what i mean by most beginners O.o)
:/ anyways actually being there and trying to teach her how to do most of this stuff was really awkward cause she kept going "im not good enough" when really shes not as bad as she thinks O.o
i think she just got rather burnt out kinda earley... kinda sucks having two editor's on the same computer.... each one pressing the other for time...

Oh, oh. I did forget one minor incident - the message board for Pittsburgh's local con came up with a thread bashing "that Gravitation / If You Were Gay video" and suggesting one that they thought was better, using FMA. ...on Hosatchel. Ahem.
I was amused. I had nothing against the other video, and they're totally free to hate mine and love that one if they want. It was an entertaining moment.
It did, however, make me want to submit videos to their competition just to spite them.

I had a similar incident, I found a thread where someone was bashing one of my videos after it had been shown somewhere, not understanding that the characters were SUPPOSED to be taken out of context, claiming that the only reason people liked the video was because of the anime used, then suggested another video that was better, but it used the same anime. I replied, explained the video abit, (as well as corrected the assumption that I was a guy) and asked them to inform me the next time they decided to show my videos. All I got was a reply that they couldn't do anything about the videos shown, and the guy who was bitching didn't say another word about it. I guess having the actual editor show up made him shy?SarahtheBoring wrote:Oh, oh.
