There will be people who will hate a given video and be jerks about it -- but I find that you can list every AMV you've done _and_ feel free to experiment by saying "screw all y'all" -- or something along those lines -- to those who don't like your work.

Worked for me :/

i'd download the video in question and take a look, but i'm on dialup, so meh....from what i've read it sounds like it's pretty similar to a couple of my videos from when i started :p

i got into this hobby using downloaded footage, downloaded music, and pirated software. all because i wanted so badly to get into this stuff, but knew that i wasn't going to have the money for a LONG time.....hell if i had waited, i'd probably be getting into it just now. :?

Audio/video quality isn't everything so just move on. Some people don't mind subtitles, and others don't like them in a video at all(obviously AbsoluteDestiny is one of these people). Personally, i don't care(unless the subs take up 25-50% of the fucking screen, then it's just retarded) and i never will care about it. Some people can make amazing videos using downloaded footage, low on quality but high on content and innovation.

meh....i doubt i even made any sense there. oh well ^^

Not everyone has this freedom. You get that freedom by making videos that blow people's minds. THEN you can do whatever you want, and people will respect you and leave you alone.

Until that point, you are in a fishbowl, and you are still very open to scorn. I dread putting out another video because of the inevitable "tsk tsk, that wasn't as good as video XYZ, you're losing your touch, maybe you never were any good after all" comments.

The freedom to do exactly what you please without reprisal is the reward for having paid your dues and impressed people enough to shut them up and make them believe that you know videos better than they do. Until then, it just isn't that easy.

expectations are a prison

This is a problem for creators who make some sort of breakthrough. I suppose the only thing they can do to help this is create something completely new, or learn to ignore concerns of popularity or the idea of following their previous vid with something that's 'worthy'.

But yep, there's a problem in being a famous pro for ya... there is a lot more pressure on them than beginners/amateurs.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Not really... if you're an amature.. and you make a few sucky videos people stop watching... if you're a professional the same thing happens.. so yeah.

Stop watching?

Are you forgetting that the fact that you're an amateur implies the fact that pretty much noone watches you in the first place? So, if you're a professional, a screwup loses you popularity. If you're an amateur, you don't have any popularity to lose, so a screwup just brings to status quo.

And who said amateurs have to make bad vids?

You have been deceived by this fake God!

Stop devil worship!

In any case, I doubt the pro's will disagree that there is additional pressure on them that the amateurs are free of.
