Oh, but I really should...

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Mon Sep 13, 2004 6:12 pm

Hey, it's me (...again...sorry! ^_^) It's probably redundant for me to post this quickly, but I wanted to follow up on a little comment before the 'trail went cold,' so to speak. So, here I am!

Yokou Seishirou - I'm not looking to make you angry (so please don't think that...), but EVERYTHING contained within an AMV is a part of the viewing experience. Your introduction totaled eighty seconds; the footage taking up that space was the X movie. That was eighty seconds that I was not expecting and did not want to see in the first place. I wouldn't have complained if you had done something interesting with the footage - but you didn't. You simply played eighty straight seconds of the movie with nothing more than a few text overlays that really had nothing to do with what you were showing. Even if it was supposed to be some inside joke with a friend, it still didn't need to be in your video. Also, your outro (the ending credits) was thirty-nine seconds in length. These credits had completely non-crucial information, and lacked some of the things that ought to have been listed. A video title, song name, and source footage name (what anime you used) should always be the first thing in credits if you have credits at all in a video. You only had the first of the three. Then, you filled up the rest of the thirty-nine seconds with meaningless thanks. Really, did any of these people actually HELP YOU make the video? I doubt it. Also, there was some self-advertisement at the very end. That is okay, especially since it wasn't lengthy. The amount of time you used on something OTHER THAN the AMV totaled 119 seconds. That is one second shy of two minutes. I have seen complete AMVs in that amount of time. I sincerely hope that you are still reading this, because I wanted to say again that I don't mean any ill will towards you. I simply wished to inform you of NOT ONLY my opinion, but what many of your other viewers are going to think when they first watch your video. I enjoyed your video. I just didn't care for the 'extras.' I still thank you for submitting it. So, thanks...I appreciate it.

Well, anywho, I have some fairly short video suggestions this time. This is the first time that I've zeroed in on just Fruits Basket in a suggestion...and Yu-Gi-Oh!, for that matter...I think.

WARNING! SOME OF THESE IDEAS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE SERIES, SO IF YOU SEE AN ANIME YOU DON'T KNOW HERE AND DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN BEFORE RITSU WIGS OUT AND SHIGURE HAS TO 'INTERVENE' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fruits Basket - Everclear – “Wonderful” – the cursed zodiac members – in addition to being one of my top ten favorite songs of all time, it is also a great song for the zodiac members (minus Yuki and Kyou, of course.) The song is all about a kid dealing with a bad/stressful childhood. In particular, I think that Ritsu is the perfect subject for this video, because his story focuses a lot on how his parents dealt with him. Other than that, the song is pretty self-explanatory. I absolutely promise a long, in-depth review to anyone who tries this idea and shows me the results!

Yu-Gi-Oh! - Sevendust – “Enemy” – Ishtar family (including Odian [sp.?] and Evil Marik), Seto Kaiba, Noah, Pegasus – Okay, I have two ideas for this video, actually. The first is this Yu-Gi-Oh! concept. This song would work the best for either the Ishtar family or Noah. Kaiba and Pegasus might be good, but I don’t think that they would work quite as well as the other two ideas.

My therapist told me to say this every day: "Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!"

These 2 appear together for only 6 episodes. And Naru is way underused.

Like I mentioned before, I hate to wait too long to reply to stuff, so here I am! Um...yeah...that's all I got for an intro... *looks around sheepishly*

Songbird21 - Hiya! What a great video! I really liked it. I haven't seen Sailor Moon, but I had always considered it. Is it a good series? Anyway, I wanted to comment on something you said in your video comments. You said something about making a video to an overused song. Hey, I don't mind that at all. I may be protesting for side characters' rights, but I don't mind repeat music as much. I will admit that I prefer seeing a video to a song I've never heard before, but I don't complain about so-called 'overused' songs. Or, I try not to, at least... ^_^ As for your video, I wanted to mention that I think that was a cute opening. I DID think that you were a little heavy on the effects in the very beginning, but you lessened the amount later in the video. That really worked more to your advantage. In a way, the effects at the beginning were a bit distracting - not bad, mind you - just distracting. The synch was great. You, like so many of the others who have submitted their videos to me, have a very good sense of timing. Other than that, I don't have any gripes with your video. If I were judging it by my guidelines, then it would rank very high. On a one to ten scale, I'd likely give it a 9.5 or so. Anyway, I'm rambling. To make a long story short, great job and please keep AMV-ing! I enjoyed it!

Cool. :) I'm glad.

It is...as long as you watch it in Japanese. The dub is 9 levels of crap.

Thanks. :)

I've had a couple of people say that. Eh, oh well. I like 'em. :)

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked it. Especially when it's coming from someone who appreciates underused characters. ^_^\/

*insert witty thought here*

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Mon Sep 20, 2004 7:16 pm

I don't have much of an introduction this time, as I'm fairly convinced that ya'll stopped reading 'em some time ago. ^_^

Songbird21 - I aim to please! *cheezy grin* ^_^

Here's more ideas! So...

WARNING! SOME OF THESE IDEAS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE SERIES, SO IF YOU SEE AN ANIME YOU DON'T KNOW HERE AND DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN AS THOUGH YOU HAD JUST EATEN ALL OF MILLY'S PUDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trigun - Flaw - “Best I Am” – Wolfwood and Milly – I totally see a semi-romance video going on here. The lyrics really seem to apply to Wolfwood, in the sense that he never seems to think that he is good enough, particularly when it comes to being good enough for Milly. He isn’t really my favorite character, but I would still love to see this video put into production. It would also help bulk up that population of serious Milly videos.

X – The Matrix Revolutions – “Navras” – Okay, this suggestion is a big one. It is also one of the most difficult ones I have offered yet. This video, minus the middle section, would make an amazing X action video. Heck, even the middle section could be wonderful if it was pulled off right. This song has seven parts to it basically.
- intense orchestral – the parts of X that tell about “The End of the World.”
- techno – battle sequences between various Dragons
- ‘ritual chanting’ techno – each of the characters’ individual life situations/pasts
- mysteriously quiet music – dream sequences (this could be Hinoto’s, Kakyou’s, and Kotori’s, remember)
- more techno – more battle sequences between various Dragons
- more intense orchestral – more parts that tell about “The End of the World,” or further battle sequences
- intense orchestral ending – cliffhanger ending – leave the viewer wondering how it’s all gonna turn out!
Okay, I don’t want to say that people with anything inferior to Premiere shouldn’t try this; I just think that this video would work out so much better with the range of effects and capabilities that that program has to offer. Of course, there is a lot to be said for just clean, well-timed cuts, too. Regardless, I still believe that some effects would very much enhance this video. One more thing I want to mention is that this song is VERY long; it tops out at 9:08. Oh, and this is another song that I would consider to be one of my top ten favorite songs of all time. I seriously consider this to be one of the most challenging of my suggestions, so I would love if someone took it up. I absolutely promise a long, in-depth review to anyone who tries this idea and shows me the results!

As you can probably tell, I am putting a lot of faith in someone to do the second idea. I would also like to comment, though, that I would be just as happy if someone did any anime to that song, so long as it was pulled off well. Just know that I can't give my best review if I don't know the anime being used. Oh! That's another thing...

You may have noticed that on a number of these suggestions I have promised full reviews to anyone who tried them. I mean that I will give a full review if the idea is done as I listed it, more or less. For example, if someone does the "Narvas" video, but uses an anime I don't know instead of X, then I will likely not give the full review. It's a matter of knowledge, really; I don't like commenting on things that I don't understand completely. Anyway, this post is WAY longer than I originally anticipated, so I'll stop here.

As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

*overflows with AMV ideas*

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Sat Sep 25, 2004 7:32 pm

Hey! Well, I'm posting twice in a row (again,) which I don't generally like doing, but it's been a while since anyone has posted in response...*sniffle*

Um, anywho, before I forget...I was wondering if anyone has been considering doing any of the suggestions I've been posting. No one has commented on any of my ideas at all, so I kind of feel like they're being ignored.

Oh, yeah! I order ALL OF YOU to go out and buy the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack!!!!! ^_^ Seriously, I just got it a week ago and it hasn't come out of my stereo since. If you like rock and metal, then it is really really really good. With that said, though, I should mention (as you'll soon see) that my next few posts will have suggestions with RE:A music exclusively. That soundtrack has some really great potential AMV songs on it.

I will persevere with these video suggestions! Also...

WARNING! SOME OF THESE IDEAS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE SERIES, SO IF YOU SEE AN ANIME YOU DON'T KNOW HERE AND DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN AS THOUGH HIJIRI WAS PLAYING HIS VIOLIN HORRIBLY OUT OF TUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neon Genesis Evangelion, X, Fruits Basket, Serial Experiments Lain - Killswitch Engage – “The End of Heartache” – Rei, Hinoto, Kakyou, Kotori, Hatori and Kana, Alice – this song hasn’t been done yet, and I think that it would make a very powerful, but very moving video. Just one word of warning; I think that the version of this song on the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack is a lot better than the original version. It is far more musical, and the screaming is more of a background object. I’m going to leave the plot interpretation up to you, the creator, this time. The characters I listed are just a tentative list, and I would gladly accept additions to that list. This was probably my favorite song from the soundtrack, so make a good video out of it, okay!? ^_^

Yami no Matsuei - CKY – “Escape from Hellview” – Maria, Hijiri, Tsubaki Mariko and Maki, Muraki – When I first heard this song, I fell in love with how well it would work for the “fleeing, frightened, tortured soul” concept. Again, I got this song (and incidentally the idea that followed) from the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack. There are no downloadable videos to this song, by the way. As for the lyrics, think about Muraki being the hunter in this song, and the other characters listed as being his prey. Yes, I realize that Hijiri had nothing to do with Muraki, but if you’re a really good AMV creator, then you should be able to place the clips well enough to make it seem like he’s hunting Hijiri, too. If that kind of ‘splicing,’ shall we say, is a little too difficult, then I suppose that you could use Sagadalius (the dog demon.) Anyway, to set the mood a bit, let me quote a few of the lyrics. “I think that something is out there waiting...” – yeah, Muraki is waiting; “They make the rounds at the midnight hour...” – you ever notice how everything seems to happen at night in YnM? Not to mention the whole blood red moon thing, of course; “And the hunger for the living helps them hunt it with the greatest of ease...” – Muraki is looking for the perfect human, and he knows exactly what he wants, so it is easy for him to hunt. So, I hope that those lyrical viewpoints help a bit with the video. Also, I absolutely promise a long, in-depth review to anyone who tries this idea and shows me the results!

Mmm...I heart that soundtrack. I want to glomp the person who put it together. Mmm...

My cat attacks me if I don't say: "Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!"

Hmm...actually debating taking up this challenge...

Been turning over the idea of doing a Beck Gold tribute video for a long time now (after hearing 'Career of Evil' enough times, it clicked)

Right now all that's stopping me is picking up eps from Season 2...

Time to spill the beans, I guess...

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Sun Sep 26, 2004 6:43 pm

I knew it would come to this eventually; it was just a matter of time. A number of have people have asked me lately about my videos. Mostly, they've asked when they can see them, or why I don't have any posted. The answer to those questions is probably best summed up in an e-mail that I sent to a friend recently.

I think it's about time I confessed...
"...I DO have AMVs, yes, but...how do I say this......? I'm pathetically, laughably, almost DISTURBINGLY, computer-illiterate. The reason I haven't posted any of my videos is because I don't understand the process. I read the instructions on a-m-v.org and it went over my head so fast that I'm pretty sure it left a bald spot. Sure, ask me to write a novel and I'd give you a masterpiece a week later, but ask me to upload something and I'm going to just blink a few times in a highly confused manner. Computers just aren't my forte. I know enough to download stuff, to search the web, and to do very basic functions. My cluelessness is the main reason that I've never posted on a forum before. I didn't want to feel like an idiot if I said the wrong thing, or if I posted in the wrong spot or something. It is also the reason I don't have a website. The truth is, I do have one video entry on a-m-v.org. It was just a test run to see if I COULD post a video. Turned out, when I got to the "FTP" part, I said the sum total of "um...," backed away slowly, and didn't finish the process. I sent a message to the administrators saying that I wanted my entry removed, on the grounds that I was just experimenting to see if I could post the video; I couldn't post it (due to my own ignorance) and didn't want to have a video that no one could download. So I sent that message. They sent one back saying that they would not remove the entry, and I should go to the forum and ask for help. I grumbled and decided to drop it - there was no point in me arguing. It's not like that entry is hurting anything. Hence, I have a single video (my sixth, to be exact) on a-m-v.org that can't be downloaded. So, long story short, I'm a technical moron, so you'll never see any of my videos on a-m-v.org. What a story, eh?"

It's not that I think that being a technical idiot is a bad thing - it's just embarrassing. So, to respond to a comment...

Al'x - I hope that the above text helps to explain a bit. Actually, though, I have yet to make an anime music video. Everything I have made so far has been from video game footage. I think that anime is much harder to use, so I didn't want to try to use anime until I had enough experience with my program (which is, unfortunately, Windows Movie Maker II.) Also, the only anime I own is Fruits Basket. I'll leave it to your imagination to figure out how I've seen so many other anime. Added to that is the fact that I don't have any sort of ripping programs for DVDs, nor do I know what programs even do that sort of thing. Anyway, I watched that No Face video of yours (by the way, No Face was my favorite character in Spirited Away ^_^ ,) and I wanted to comment on what an ODD (not bad, just ODD) song choice that was. It was, though, very appropriate for the weirdness of that character. Your editing was good, and the visual quality was Great. Also, I'm flattered that you like my video ideas. Thank you.

Heero_Yuy84 - I have to be honest...I haven't heard of either Beck Gold or "Career of Evil," but I do fully support you making the video - once you get the episodes of Season 2, of course! If you do make the video, make sure to post here again and I'll watch it and give some comments.

With that stuff said (and my own embarrassment fully exposed,) I'd like to give more of these pointless suggestions that I have such an attachment to! Also...

WARNING! SOME OF THESE IDEAS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE SERIES, SO IF YOU SEE AN ANIME YOU DON'T KNOW HERE AND DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, RUN LIKE KAEDE WAS SENDING BURANSHE AT YOU IN HYPER MODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angelic Layer - Demon Hunter – “My Heartstrings Come Undone” – Misaki, Shuuko – this is yet another song from the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack. It is also the Misaki and Shuuko character profile that I have been waiting to see for such a long time now. The song itself is just beautiful. The lyrics have a lot to do with dealing with the past and wanting to be with a person, even if it hurts. I’ve been searching for a good song for these two for some time now, and I think that this one is really close to what I’m looking for. As for the technical stuff, a lot of the footage is likely going to come from the final two episodes, but there is footage throughout the other parts of the series as well. Also, in the case of this particular video, I wouldn’t condemn anyone for using parts of the final battle to emphasize the intensity of the video. I’m allowing it this time because of the nature of this suggestion. To explain, if you notice, in the final episode Misaki’s aunt makes a comment about Misaki and Shuuko’s battling being a form of communication, particularly at the very beginning of the fight. So, the battle has a lot to do with Misaki and Shuuko’s relationship as people, and not Deuses. If done correctly, that final battle doesn’t have to be just mindless action. While I CAN pretty much guarantee a full review, I won’t make any promises with this one.

X TV – HIM – “Join Me in Death” – this is another addition to the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack line-up that I’ve been offering as of late. I find these lyrics slightly disturbing for some reason. Actually, I think it is because they are set to a song with such a dreamlike quality. Minus the rock/guitar sounds, the music sort of sounds like something from X. As for my decision of why this song and anime are a good pairing...well...just listen to the song. Now tell me that this song doesn’t go well with X. Yeah. That’s what I thought. Like my last suggestion, I won’t make any promises about getting a full review with this one, but I think that I probably would review it.

I get a twitch when I don't say: "Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!"
