x3, only I waited until just before I uploaded to check to see if my idea had been done before. Sure enough, of the five times my chosen song had been used before, two were to the same anime. That said I still haven't seen them, so I don't know how mine stacks up.Undertow wrote:I did the same thing, i had a pretty good idea of what i wanted to do, and checked out if it was already there, and it was. Fortunatly the other idea sucked badly, so i had the perfect opportunity to do it right.Radman wrote:I have an awesome idea for an AMV. However, to be polite, I took the liberty of seeing if it had been used already. It has been used once. (the same song to the same anime)....
Before I continue- If I were to still make an AMV with the same anime and song, would that be terribly bad?
Moving onward, I took the liberty of watching this person's AMV. Although the AMV was alright, some scenes put to different parts of the lyrics seem so good that I seriously consider using those same scenes (from my own DVDs) in my AMV.
Would this be grossly wrong or impolite as well?
For those who don't know what i'm refering to, it's my Same Old Song video and Circ-A's I love ... Akira !!!. I hope everyone can agree with me that mine is a but better, atleast i hope everyone can. But as you can see, no problem in doing the same idea as someone else did, the only problem is when you do something that has been done 10 times before (linkin' park/DBZ), but i doubt your planning on doing that

creating a video with the same anime/song or theme as another video is different from using another edited amv as source without permission.
when you use another edited amv as source, you are taking credit for another person's work. the amv viewer watches your video with the understanding that any differences between original anime/music source and what is shown in the music video is a product of the creator's actions, unless otherwise specified. however, this becomes false when you use edited footage as source, and by the standards of ethics for many people here, it is wrong.
when you create a video with the same anime/song match, the differences between original anime/music source and what is shown in the music video is truly a product of the creator's actions.
so far, music video ideas and themes are fair game for copying, and in fact crucial to the learning + improvement process. for example, when we see an effect we like in someone else's video, we might try to replicate or put variations that effect on our videos. the same applies for ideas about what songs and anime might work well together, and what themes would apply well to these song/anime pairings.
