i think some japanese or korean guys were making amvs a long long time before anime appeared in US markets.

I think the hobby we know as "Anime Music Videos" is considered only about fan-made work. Sure, technically those anime features are Anime Music Videos too, but we are the only ones who call our work Anime Music Videos, not the anime studios.
