bah... i think as an audience member its much more fun to vote on which one you like the best. than to just watch whatever... i can watch whatever at home, with a bunch of friends, and it would be about the same thing O.o
~~~~~~~~~
if you want a room of endless amvs, go to AWA.. you can enter to "not compete" and cause they have "Request hours" you can request your own amvs if you want O.O they have a room dedicated 24 hrs a day to amvs O.o
AWA also had the largest audience turn out for the "awards ceremony" and the "A.D.D. contest"
~~~~~~~~~
there are cons that have "showcase" for people who dont want to compete, and well if A-kon is any indication:
Pro = largest crowd
Amature = next largest
Showcase = hardly anyone... (though it was stuck in a back room somewhere in nowhere @_@)
i havent been to many cons, but from just those two...
~~~~~~~~~
now , if this guy doesnt want the contest at his con anymore, hes gonna have to take it up with his con director...
but from what i can tell the contest (atleast to me) is just as much for the audience as it is for the contestants...
i guess being involved with the amv contest is going to bring drama about... but i suppose theres not much to do about it cept just not let people get to you...
I can see it now:shumira_chan wrote:No votes or trophies or free stuff. No categories even, justJaddziaDax wrote:then what would they do with all the pretty trophies?
and what would the audience "vote" on?
kinda loses the fun of free stuff and audience participation
select the AMVs that flow together well one after another
(one of the worse aspects of AMV contests is the pacing,
as category switches are rather jarring). It would also help
with the "oh no, not half an hour of sappy romance"
syndrome. Audience participates regardless through their
reactions, perhaps even more enthusiastically if the overall
show is better balanced.
"The AMV Instrumentality Project".
A rather large pale version of Phade rising up and sucking up all the AMV's into one. "Tumbling down, Tumbling down, Tumbling dowwwwwn."
Yeah, showcase is a dumping ground. I submit forJaddziaDax wrote:Showcase = hardly anyone... (though it was stuck in a back room somewhere in nowhere @_@)
exhibition, I don't know why I bother, maybe it's
just the romantic in me.
I still think it's possible to put together a good exhibition
show, but it seems most people either reject the idea
outright or make fun of it. That's fine, though, I don't
really care that much, it'll still be "exhibition-only" for me.
they have noncompetitive showings at otakon. its called overflow screenings (i.e. videos that failed to make main contest). not as big as the main contest, but it draws a good crowd.shumira_chan wrote:No votes or trophies or free stuff. No categories even, just
I know, I've submitted to it The show, however, carriesdownwithpants wrote:they have noncompetitive showings at otakon. its called overflow screenings (i.e. videos that failed to make main contest). not as big as the main contest, but it draws a good crowd.
the stigma of showing "bad" videos (i.e. those which failed
to make the contest), which I think is unfortunate.
There are cliques but not on musical taste. Instead they're based on mode of communication. There's a distinct IRC clique, journal clique, studio cliques, forum clique, AIM clique, pangya clique, con attendee clique, an op giver clique, anal rape clique, banner maker clique, etc. There's a lot of overlap between these but they are separate. Just to pick a random example, Jaddzia is fairly active on the forums and journals but rarely is in IRC and I doubt you'd ever see her co-hosting RDS TV. There is no single overall org community. It's made up of several different communities all of which are nominally centered around AMVs and the org. Which makes the school analog rather close to reality, a huge collection of cliques with a single unifying common denominator.Ingow wrote:Once you have a community like that however there should be some kind of community spirit but all you can see is some teenage puberty bullshit, sometimes I even think that we have cliques going on that seperate themselves through their goddamn musical tastes now, and that's like back in the old days at school. And as we all know: school community spirit was fucking bullshit too.
Just for reference, I think that Anime Manifest does ashumira_chan wrote:I know, I've submitted to it The show, however, carries
tremendous job in the way they handle both the
competition and the exhibition. I haven't been able to
attend (it's half-way around the world), but even their
event list show the effort they put into it:
(Off-topic, I know, but those guys deserve the kudos!)
using me as an example is really bad, cause i dont really "have" a clique... i have several friends that seem to fit into several cliques (which amazingly is about the same for me now as it was when i was in highschool, i didnt really have a clique then either...) I'm somewhat of a drifter...
I probably wouldnt co-host RDS for the simple fact that no one cares what i would have to say... and im not as interesting as Kewp and AtomX. Though sometimes, i find that when im listening to RDS raido/tv that its actually more like im listening to them on skype, and sometimes im retarded enough to try to talk back to them O.o
and the only reason im not in IRC is cause every time i go in there NOTHING is happening... @_@ so for the most part i dont really bother... its not like i hate the place or anything, its just that its always dead when i come in :/
Anyone in a MEP labeled 'Journal Junkies' doesn't really have room to say they aren't part of the journal clique. That'd be like me saying I'm not in the IRC clique despite the fact I've gone literally months without logging out of IRC before. Keep in mind I'm not saying it's a bad thing there are cliques or that you, and others, fall into certain ones. Just that's the way it is.JaddziaDax wrote:using me as an example is really bad, cause i dont really "have" a clique... i have several friends that seem to fit into several cliques (which amazingly is about the same for me now as it was when i was in highschool, i didnt really have a clique then either...)
