LOL actually, I'm trying to corrupt her with AMVs. She translated a Chinese song I plan to use in an upcoming project, so maybe she's coming around!Beowulf wrote:dump that hoe!shonen_jidai wrote:My wife always looks askance at me wondering why I'm spending time making AMVs rather than making more money!

Family/friend reaction runs the gamut from "Uhhh...wow, she's even more of a geek than I thought" to "She must be so cool because she can make an AMV."
I take a degree of offense to both positions. I'm just ME!! I'd really prefer my anime/AMV hobby didn't figure too heavily my social/family life and this is why, unless I have a real good reason to bring it up, I don't say much about my AMV endeavors in that company. In fact, I'm far more likely to discuss that subject with relative strangers than I am with people I know well.

hah my parents have never seen my amv's but then I moved out of home over 10 years ago and only started watching them in '02 and editing in '03. Even if they had they'd prolly just shrug, I've been looking after myself practically since I was about 8, so parental interest, support or approval is not something i actually give a rats about.
My sister edits as well but she doesn't like anythin I make, and once again I couldn't care less.
My friends (who loan me sources a lot ) Love amv's all sorts and styles but they never like any of my videos so I just stopped showing them, they just say "uh-huh" and go back to reading/writing or walk off while they are playing - clear indications of not being interested... even if I don't tell them I made it, the reaction is the same, but when I show other peoples vids that I consider pretty decent they salivate and are glued to the screen and ask for copies (mostly to masturbate over at a later time would be my guess). Recently tho 2 of them have taken more of an interest and are actively supportive and say nice things like "wow the picture looks awesome" and "that really rocked" or things along those lines... they also seem to be stalking my online profiles >.> which could be evidence of mental instability...
Anyway it doesn't really matter what they think or say, I edit what I want and for me (mostly with the exception of dedications or w/e) not for the approval of my family or friends. This helps me get the jumbled mess of creativity and ideas floating around in my head out and into a medium.
Sure it's nice to have poeple who you know and respect (or love for those who actually care about their family) being supportive of what you make, but your pretty weak as a person if you actually need that.

I first started with my best friend Carl back then. He was quite interested in anime at that time and wanted me to go forward with it since he thought I had some kind of talent into editing stuff after doing all of those ''jackass'' attempt videos . So at the beginning of summer 2004 I finally took a step out and started my very first AMV and Carl was the one to help me with it and he did. When the video was finished he was really happy about it and wanted me to do more so that was the time when I started taking amving seriously. A couple of years later Carl changed and didn't have any interest in anime anymore and we didn't meet each others very often either. I guess it's true the fact that people changes through times and it's sad (I want to leap through time)
There is some few new friends who is starting to make amv's. These guys once helped me with my movie project assignment form school and since they had the same course as I do. They were here for about a week and we worked nonstop to this movie (u don't wanna see it). Then there was the breaks where we all sat down and did some Iron Chefs. At first then didn't know what I was talking about so I explained the rules and then they were really excited about it. So me,Chilli,Mike and Xalon started IC'ing 3 days before their departure so in the end we ended up in the fourth round, u can see these videos at my Youtube account NiwaAMV. I have to say that each one of em had a huge potential and had thier speciality on different aspects into editing and not to mention that this was their first amv's aswell so I was kinda speechless at the time. They enjoyed it and they considered to do more of these into the future, oh man was I glad when I heard that. We all decided that we were going to do a video for next year Uppcon, I'm really looking forward to it. I guess is not only me u gotta be extra careful ZetZu and Dicktor for the next contest
About my family, they are glad about it that what I think. I think my mother is the one most interested of my work since she knew I had a talent into this from the start (that was like the same thing that Carl mentioned before) I don't know about that though. She's really pushing me with school nowadays so I can attend into university and continue my editing. As for my sister she quite interested into it and kept asking me about lending some of my mangas once a week nowadays. At last my father, hes not really that interested at the beginning and kept saying that I should work with ''real'' materials. But after seeing my latest video (Whisper in The Dark) he finally realized that it wasn't really bad at all and he approved at last. I'm at least a happy that he was interested even if it was a bit.
