If it's your first time building a computer just get a barebones set.
I built my own computer alright. The only problem I had was getting stuff that was compatible witht he other stuff. And that's solved by getting a barebones set, really.

Also, my motherboard came with very very VERY useful manual.
When you read it, EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE.
And you know where to plug in stuff and everything.

Besides, there's a bunch of pride & accomplishment with building your own rig. It's more "personal". xD
