Hate to tell you but from what I can tell trolling around the creators who aren't well known and popular the typical AMV is lucky if more than 100 or 200 people ever download it. Some AMVs and creators get a fair bit of recogniztion amoung fans but the majority aren't seen that often.
I've said it before and I'm going to say it again: if it's recognition and downloads a creator's after, then I suggest that s/he submit to conventions. Works wonders, really, from what I've seen.

If it's popularity you're after join a rock band, AMVs just aren't gonna get you fame and fortune.
Cynical much?

File you under "You Misunderstand Me". And believe me, that's a pretty huge cabinet. :P

Unfortunately, it only works on this one. That's a dick joke for the hearing impaired. Don't leave anyone out, that's my policy. Used to be I didn't have a policy. (or something like that).

Well, to answer your question: I do it to promote questions like this. I make what I want, when I want, how I want, and to an extent to be able to watch exactly what I want. For example, if I directed and scripted a movie, I would watch it everyday.

Then I came to this site and saw the #1 vid (Euphoria [Koop]) and I was blown away and got back into it. But now my range of anime is a lot broader and I have better proggys ;p
Making an analogy to sports in the same way, it just goes you can't expect to be as good as (Sports Celebrity Here) in a week, but you do it because you want to.

The technical part is really a **** though. I listen to parts of a song and it's damn hard to piece things together... last Naruto x Dune project of mine:
1) The music will be ruined for you. The fun of a song comes from when you are beginning to understand it's nuances and you don't "know it" yet (the song's freshness).
Ex. I listened to "Frou Frou : Let Go", "See-Saw : Key of the Twilight" hundreds of times. Now, hearing them in the radio I can tell you what clips go where. Aurgh.

2) Ripping from DVD to clips is a chore, esp. when you can't find it. Be prepared to use pen and paper to note down ideas before you forget them while you don't have the source completed.
Ex. A typical series is 26 episodes, at 22min each = 572 minutes (barely under 10h). I still haven't found the clip of [ Title: Tenchi Universe ] with ( characters ) playing volleyball with some ( tool of mass destruction ) because Washu forgot to mention the self-destruct feature.

3) I envision the scene, but the scene in the anime is slightly longer/shorter and just doesn't work with you unless you stretch the timing :P
The 6.8 second 163 frame clip of (Kira Yamato arming the slides on the Archangel before pulling away from the gate) doesn't fit in the 5.2 seconds of (Audio effect)
