Ok, lets try it this way then. What makes an AMV bad?

single chapter/scene r usualy bad... like asuka fighting the eva series... and ONLY that scene.... altho there r some exeptions....

I personally don't like a lot of lip syncing. It feels sort of comical to me and kind of takes away the feel of a sad or serious video.

But that's just an opinion what I think makes a vid bad is when someone uses clips from one episode and just one episode when most of the scenes they show have about jack crap to do with the "theme" of the vid. (I realize that my Fruits Basket xmas vid has this element in a way but I really liked the way the video felt and didn't want to throw in anything else...though if I were to make it again I would try to make the scenes fit better)

I've seen a video that was made out of like, 5 clips. Total. For a 3-something minute long song. That was a few years ago, but I'm sure people still do it. That's just lazy.

Also orphan frames. I hate orphan frames.

I made a video uping one clip that I played backwards. THAT's lazy.

I personally look down on AMV's that don't evoke emotion. I've seen splendidly edited AMVs where at the end I say "OK...yeah...so what?" Art is all about emotion, and an AMV that doesn't stir some emotion inside of us is like candy without the sweetness or rice without soy sauce (figuratively speaking). Granted, its entirely on a case-to-case basis, but you know what I mean.

I personally agree with Eek-1 (on most accounts)- but I'm a virutous little SonofaBeastick (note my location)
