Clips that are randomly put together with music without as much as a thought of making it fit.
Subtitles are also very annoying.

Subtitels are very bad. The other things changing, sometimes it is the music other times the anime, or it didnt fit together. Or there are to many effects. Ok also the picture quality must be good.

Lack of effort, or as I've referred to it the "Give a damn" factor. IE if it's obvious that the person who made the video doesn't give a damn about AMVs, anime, or any other aspect of AMV creation I don't give a damn about the video.

I personally can't stand it when the beat sync is off, it just feels like it goes against nature considering I've trained in percussion and just wrecks viewing it for me.

Hahahahaha. Yes.
I'm quite amused at this in fact.
I do wonder though, when people try something different and fail, THAT I hate in amvs... cough* lol cough*

But when people do something that others hate [fx: Euphoria] and win, THAT'S glory, that's bein' the KING/QUEEN BABY! ^_^

The #1 vids have always been fx laden [Odorikuruu, Whisper of the Beast, Euphoria etc.] and the mobby crowds with 'no skill' will always eat that stuff up.

The people I notice who hate fx and snob people who claim fx to be great I honestly believe are just jealous of the overblown affection people have for looking at sparkly lighty colors like lab animals. I for one, am a lab animal... ^_^ [I suppose these high-spirit editors are above being said lab animal and therefore claim to be better... ^_^]

Let good fx rule this universe and let the bad canned [anyone can do with cut and paste] fx fall to Hades with 300 Spartans...

I truly despise those who put together effect laiden amvs without evening thinking of a concept. I hate it when some punk kid makes a Nauro amv of Rock Lee and Gaara or something, slaps the clips down with some techno and sony vegas, and says that its a good amv.

I'm not a big fan of effects in the first place, but that's a whole nother rant....

In my eyes, no matter how good the effects are, if the amv doesn't have a purpose, a story, meaning, I will not give it a good raiting. It's as simple as that.

Now, if the person who created a simple minded amv did have a purpose behind it, then I can enjoy the ride. I just really don't like the lack of creativity that's been present in amv making as of late.

Blame it on being an intellectual who hates people. :D

When every 5 seconds when they switch scenes a small glimpse of something shows beforehand, it's annoying and causes brain lag, hear that amv creators? stop making those little scenes appear in transitions between scenes... please

- Crappy image quality (seen enough of those as it is already. Strangely, it seems to be linked to the most popular animes out there.... connection? )

- Randomly pieced together footage (where it really makes no to little sense at all how the "story" (or rather "clips") fits with the song)

- Too much white/flashing effect (not that I get a seizure, but annoyed as **** still manages to occur just like the doctor said)

- Subtitles (which I am a hypocrite for saying, and deserve to be punished for)

- Bad editing (speaks for itself... Sometimes you wonder if it even has been edited...)

- When the AMV starts or ends with another song (I'm probably one of the few to think so. But when you're getting yourself mentally prepared for some mushy, sentimental thing, and get to her some goofy music as an intro sound, it really kills it for me...)

Whoa. Long list. But I think I could manage to make one equally long for a reversed question of what "makes" an AMV good. Therefore;
I shalt not feel bad. 8-)

I agree with all of the above. The worst of all of them all is poor editing. OO and the overused songs/artist.
