*sigh* That guy's not a professional. I'm not going to bother commenting anymore.

I feel bad for his readership.

By all means, keep commenting. He deserves to be called out for his little rant.

At this point I'm expecting a follow up from some angry reader responses but I'm not expecting anything to come of it. The man will defend his opinions to no end and he concedes virtually nothing. While he is informed on some industry elements his fandom knowledge is spread a bit thin (going everywhere but not all that deep).

That's the thing. I am not saying his opinion is wrong.

I'm saying how he wrote his column is. You know, he's right, I do think he did a bad job on that particular column and I've died a bit inside because clearly our industry needs to make further clear what an op/ed piece is, because the reader comments are really disturbing for me as a professional.

If he can't take criticism, that's his problem.

Over generalizations are half the problems here in Iraq. I don't like them and isn't "over generalization" a euphemism for Steriotyping anyway.

Where I am I see WAY too much steriotying.

To classify all AMVs on YT, Kazaa, or most other places as garbage isn't true I know a lot of good amvs (even ones that use fansub material) and others that I delete within the first 3 seconds of a AMV. I have seen and made some bad AMVs and I don't think that a majority of people start out good or even with the best quality material. While I also understand that some get their production equipment form illegal means but I also know that there are those here who've actually purchased Adobe Premier or Pinnacle 10.

A better statement to make would have been "I personally don't like AMVs for ... reason, though many people find them entertaining and some people look for AMVs of anime that they haven't seen to get a taste of what something new." Then he could have expanded apon that

I aggree in part to his statement about alot of Naruto, IY, DB Franchise, or some other Kiddie anime (Which I enjoy sometimes).

That "article" is absolute BS. I mean c'mon this is truly weaksauce.

I for one miss the old days when one of our OWN would openly admit that we have no creativity and are pissing on someone else's work by daring to alter it for our own use.

I think the big disconnect is that we as the "elite" of the community see (at least at a subconscious level) the multitudes of complete crap as something other than AMV - much in the same way amazing cosplayers see gheto-ass "i found this in the dollar bin at the used clothing outlet and it kinda looks like his shirt" cosplay to not be cosplay at all. When you make judgments about a hobby like this guy did, you don't realize that you're not talking abut the same thing really.

I understand where he is coming from. however there was a lot of over generalzation personally I think editing requires a lot of creativity. Cause the same could be said of professional editors since they are using someoneelses work.
If you want a series to be longer just write fanfiction!(but don't make anyone read it)
