Eck. I think this thread is pointless. It's not like we can go up to the you-tube millionaires and ask nicely if they would remove hundreds upon thousands of AMV's. However, i do think that da tubers need to pay a little more respect to the org. However, like I stated eariler, this is nothing more than a fantasy.

this site is trying to keep the stance that we do not want its users to violate the tube's terms of service...quadir wrote:Considering this site was about creating a catalog of amv's and links to as many places as possible to down them, it seems stupid of us to exclude anyone, even if all they offer is low quality off-sync embedded video.
Make it an indirect link and lock amv announcement threads that don't list the video profile. Banning a certain hosting option seem pretty weak sauce to me.
seems like blocking them is pretty reasonable about that since AMVs do infact violate the tube's terms of service O.o

Like the further obfuscation of copyright law by trading big-business free advertising for prosecution waivers?Nunchuck wrote:I guess you should also consider the positiv sides of Utoob.

take wind-up records for an example.. our popularity caused a C&D order that blocked SEVERAL THOUSAND Evenescence Seether and Creed videos from being hosted locally or allowed links... and now the ones with the know always end up having to answer the "what the heck?" and "where did my video go?" questions.

Blah...
I just say that we keep to our own business, and let the tube take care of its own as well. Just make the fact that the tube does not belong on the org in an easy to read manner, and this problem will slowly begin to diminish.
Unfortunately, even if that is done, it won't go away completely, so if you see a link to the tube, tell them nicely and move on. That's all that can be done, for if you do it in an aprasive manner, you are only going to entice people to go against the rules and continue to do so.
Unless there a blundering idiot, and, in that case, nothing can be done to fix that. XD
So, let's all chill, sit back, grab an icea tea, and relax. It's not the end of the world, nor is it the end of the org.

I found out they start ignoring your flags if you get an account only to do that. They've begun to just look the other way unless you go through the tedious process of filling out all the paperwork to prove your copyright is being violated (and they kindly remind you that if you make false claims of copyright violation, you're committing a crime yourself). No wonder Viacom is suing them. They claim they don't have the ability to police themselves through filtering even though they immediately got rid of a huge porn flood there with little or no effort (it was allegidily orchestrated by a viacom executive trying to prove youtube execs were full of shit).downwithpants wrote:you can. flag the videos for unauthorized use of copyrighted material.code_chrono wrote:It's not like we can go up to the you-tube millionaires and ask nicely if they would remove hundreds upon thousands of AMV's.

I am quite happy being an elitist, holier-than-thou, arrogant snob when it comes to hosatchel.
I put up my videos when it first opened hoping to reach a wider audience. I was dismayed to see videos of fellow editors ripped off, a serious lack of constructive criticism, and the ease with which total crap was everywhere. I remember the days of complaints about RM and WMV, but hosatchel is even worse.
I've seen no good and only bad come from that site for us. I frankly think that hosatchel is going to be what gets us shut down if that ever happens. We weren't even a blip on the radar screens for the most part, wind-up aside, but if we don't at least try control how many connections there are to be spidered between us and hosatchel, we'll be guilty by association.
And therefore I'm probably going to take down my videos and delete my account. I think it is best for us to pretend that hosatchel doesn't even exist, and hopefully the "editors" there will do the same for us.
Kill all links to that site, immediately and with a vengeance, lest we be driven into some sort of comical underground resistance movement, making videos in the dead of night and getting hosting at internet "safehouses" in Sweden.
