If I had a dedicated room I agree this is more what I am thinking now... but since I don't I will be going with a 2 contest route which will accommodate everyone / find the balance I am looking for.

But I do concur with the feeling that they're not suitable for competitions. I've decided not to accept them anymore at AX, though that's a decision that was in the making for over a year and wasn't a direct response to Animu Stew.
I am debating on AMV Hell vids... I was considering including them at MTAC, but it would be only eligible to win the AMV Hell or blipvert category. waiting to hear what editors say at AWA.

Anti trolling is hard bc then some contests suck bc people don't' have time to make new things. Rules should be in place but like winning 1 or 2 awards seems a bit too rushed. I wouldn't call 1 or 2 awards trolling either lol. I know I tried to submit a new amv to only its 2nd contest but couldn't because I won 2 awards at the other con it was entered in. Soooo I say anti-troll rules are good but lets not get to hasty >_> maybe like 5.

Pretty much the same thing for Sakura-Con's Contest in regards to AMV Hell vids

As an audience member, I really enjoy AMV Hell style videos. The atmosphere of a con really caters to the vaudville style quick jokes that can tap into extreme references. Unlike other categories, the problem with this kind of video is that it is the most obvious example of "pandering".

But what's wrong with that? It makes the audience feel good, which is the primary point of a con. Its the editors who reject it, because they don't want to compete in AMV Hell style videos. We recognize that if we all "went for the prize", AMV contests would be one giant AMV Hell block, and there's no fun in that really.

Delegating the video style to its own category will legitimize the old art of vaudville, while keeping it fair for the individual categories. It also will keep the AMV Contest viewership more well balanced. So I think that's a great idea and its win/win for almost everyone.

The only question is... if there'd be enough AMV-Hell style videos for all the cons. If the category doesn't fill up with 5+ videos for a competition, then it would all be for naught.

that is the question i have... since a lot of contests say no to Hell. What I do love about them is they are usually short...

Two out of three that I received this year were in the five to six minute range, so not necessarily. An editor technically can make them as long as he or she wants until they run out of gags.

Guro Soup has a runtime of 14 minutes too and it got best adult.
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

Okay, I'm gonna be the one to say it...you can't be like "blipvert (hell style) videos aren't fair" and then be like "trolling super popular videos that win a lot is fine stop complaining"...it's all about audience entertainment right? If you call "unfair" on one thing then do so for the other too, don't have a double standard. By the pandering troll logic....just "make a better video and beat it"...amirite?
