Robotech's kind of up for debate...I mean...if you're just focusing on one 'generation' it'd prob. just be easier to list it as Macross, Mospeada, or Southern Cross unless it's sporting a twist unique to RT.Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote:any of the earlier Gundam series could use more vids, aswell as the earlier macross movies and TV series, and Robotech (if that counts as anime)
thats all I can think of at the moment.
On the other point...A-bloody-men

Oh and theres not enought GTO amvs ><
If by 'no one is subbing them' you mean 'no one is subbing them where I can download them for free', you're right- because it's been out commercially for like half a year.
It is amusing reading through the first half of this thread and seeing what was 'underused' then. Some things are now far less underused- I did a serious double-take when I saw Inu-Yasha listed and though, "WTF???? There have been like 5 million..."- but still a number that are underused. And there will continue to be more and more that are underused- because more anime keeps getting produced. If no more was produced, people would eventually get tired of the 'popular' stuff at the moment and (having nothing new to look to) look beyond it to the other material, be it less popular or simply older.
Some things don't get used because they're hard to find source material for- especially of good quality. In my opinion, the two old Silent Mobius movies were incredible, and I'd love to have good copies of them to use for source- but they're just not available period (for the most part), much less on DVD or the likes. (I should note that the Silent Mobius TV series- while far inferior art-wise but covering much more of the story- is also badly underused. To the point I can't think of a Silent Mobius video at all...). The classic example of this in my book though is Top wo Narae- better known as Gunbuster. One of the best shows ever, IMO- but basically disappeared from the anime scene in the early/mid 90's due to mergers/companies going out of business. As such, I can think of almost no AMVs that have used it, at least not without reaching waaaay back in my memory to when I first got started. As more companies reach back into their back catalogs and release things on DVD that never have been before, this may change a bit- but then there's the next problem.
Age. Some of my favorite anime (Urusei Yatsura being at the top of that list) are simply OLD. No matter how much digital magic you try and work on it, it's never going to look as crisp and bright as, well, almost anything released recently. This doesn't mean it's impossible to work with- it's not- but it just doesn't strike people as much as the more vibrant and clean newer, largely digital, shows.
And finally- let's face it, some things just suck, at least to some people. ErMaC mentioned Sin : The Motion Picture a ways back... he's right, it's got plenty of action in it. But it's like the last thing I'd consider using for an AMV, because I thought it was a complete waste of my time after watching it. We tend to use things we like and like to see. *shrugs*
And finally- sometimes a show is just simply hard to use- especially well- in an AMV. The Seiki (Crest/Banner of the Stars) series mentioned earlier fall under this to me. Beautiful show. But really hard to come up with a good concept for an AMV with- simply because so much of it is slower and more plodding- and what action there is tends to be a bit harder to use.
There'll always be 'underused' shows... but that isn't all bad. It just means that we'll be all the more delighted when someone makes a good video using one of them...
