Save the AMV community: Holistic approach needed before 12-7
There has been a resurgence in the AMV community in the last 2 years with some veteran AMV editors returning from World of Warcraft to make AMVs. AMV pundits are now running scared as this trend could possibly revert when the WoW expansion Cataclysm is launched Dec 7th. One of the main goals behind Cataclysm (besides luring new players to re-tooled and improved starting game zones) is to get old players to come back and re-roll and experience the the famous Azeroth and Kalimdor zones in a new way.
The AMV community NEEDS to take this threat seriously. Only sustained candlelight vigils and campaigning can prevent another disaster like the mass exodus of AMV creator talent of January 16, 2007. We will not get through this without the entire community unified. We MUST take a holistic approach this time.
Thank you and have a pleasant tomorrow.

There's something minorly cruel about seeing a topic titled 'Justin Rollins of Shining Fingers Studio passed away' followed by a topic titled 'Save the AMV community: Holistic approach'. It's probably too soon to take the idea any further than that, but yeah, holistic cancer treatments...

Really? WoW is why everyone stopped making amvs for the last two years? Really?
The fact that we all have lives outside of this hobby has nothing to do with it? The fact that some of us are still in college means nothing? Let alone those of us struggling to stay ahead in the current economy?
WoW? REALLY?

I will not be returning to WoW... I've been sober for too long to revert back to my old ways. I must be strong!

IDK... I was in one of the most difficult majors my school offered (that landed me a damn good job right out of college on my first interview) and I found college to have the most spare time for editing of any point in my life before or after.macchinainterna wrote:Really? Also played WoW... and it did eat up all my free time. Fell off the wagon in 2008 for a weekend - hit the realization that I couldn't actively play as I had before after stopping because I simply didn't have the time to play enough. Been clean for a while now. Never again.

Since I would need a new comp to play it, I shall continue to make one AMV a year!
