What weird things do you notice about your catalog entries?

Post by Kariudo » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:45 am

I was looking through my profile at my star ratings. Even if you claim to not edit for ratings, I'd bet you still notice them. While staring at those numbers, a thought pops into my mind...

Hmm, my highest rated video is the 5 minute video I slapped together in 2 hours.
Hmm...it looks like the longer I spend on making an amv, the lower a score it gets.

Now that trend doesn't apply to all my videos, but...
  • highest rated: took 2 hours
  • second highest: first amv. I spent maybe a week on it
  • third highest: latest amv. Took around a year to complete but started on it and left it for ~7 months
So what weird things surround your videos?
Do you unknowingly release a video on the same day every year?
Do your titles have some strange pattern? (VNS videos don't count for this one)
Or...are your videos just normal and don't stand out in any way?

One of my favorite videos of mine has the lowest score of them all. My highest rated video is definitely more atypical of my editing (and it is liked, but not a personal favorite).

I very commonly release videos around my birthday. I usually have something half-finished, and then I get out of school about two weeks before my birthday, which is when I will finish working on it. Even if I finish early, I wait until about that day because it is after the major flood of ACen videos.

I would say that my videos are pretty normal, although it does surprise me somewhat that my first video using Fatal Frame II has so many hits (and one of the higher download amounts) and has maintained a pretty high score. Given that the series isn't exactly super popular (I hesitate to say "obscure") and it never went to a convention (mm, I take that back; I think it has been played, but I never submitted it, and it has certainly never competed), it's just a bit weird.

My favorite video of mine has the least hits (possibly due to the music), though it is second highest in star ratings. My latest video has the most hits, though it's the lowest in star ratings (most likely due to the quality). My first video has the highest star ratings and it goes down from there with each video. If that trend keeps up, my next video should have a star rating that's somewhere under 3.00, possibly between 2.80 and 2.95 or so.

My favorite videos have the lowest scores.

Videos that have appeared in cons generally get above a 3.5.

Sad videos generally get lower scores than happy videos.

Anything with Taylor Swift is almost always going to get above 3.5. >_<

- My most viewed AMV is one I did in like an hour, way back when there was only 1 episode of Bleach released to work with.

- Other than my last video, the videos I like are not the ones anyone else likes.

5 of my top 6 videos are actually MEPs (AMV Hell 5, AMV Salad 4, Wonderful world of AMV, AMValentine 2011, a-m-v.org Christmas).

But other than that, nothing really seems weird statistically. My favorite video is actually my highest rated video (3.83) that's not a MEP (Make a Wish). And my least favorite video is my lowest rated video (2.98) and the video that I spent the least amount of time on (less than a week before AWA's 2008 expo deadline)(Claymore: Love, Fury, Energy and Passion).

I did notice that both videos that I made for intro videos for anime conventions actually have the exact same rating of 3.77 ("Roku and Roll" and "Fan-Service is cheaper by the pound"), but 2 of my drama videos have higher ratings than them ("Make a wish" and "Tears are from the heart".)

I have done more collabs and MEPs than solo vids (29 vs 18)...
The video quite a few people prefer from me (I Win Fags) was one of the easiest vids to do and in fact took me only a couple half afternoons as it was just meant as a birthday present for Shui. o.O

According to the numbers (star scale and downloads), I apparently peaked in 2006/2007, even though I've done stuff I enjoyed working on more, stuff that's had much higher production values, and stuff with more large con wins since then.

People apparently love them some Azu-dai loli-yuri. :awesome:

ALL of my videos (including collabs) except the most artistic one (thus no-one gets it) and SKAtchbook are in 3-4 area, with the exceptions being 2.99 and 2.79 respectively.

The more serious I get in the AMV, the better rating it gets, I suppose. Though it's really hard to tell, since the variance is so small...
