how do you stay on task?!?

Post by zibbazabba905 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 8:58 pm

seriously? I'm almost 2/3 done and I keep getting ideas for other videos (one of which will be over 15 minutes!) I think the only thing that's keeping me going on this one is I've decided not to even start work on the final verse until I get the rest done

the best way to stay on task is to set a deadline. Deciding to enter a upcoming AMV contest is the perfect way to push yourself to finish your current project.

I tend to work sporadically on my timeline, do all the parts I have stronger ideas for first, which in early betas will have random blank spots. However I only work on one amv at a time, so I have to finish one before I start another.

This pretty much sums it up for me.

Honestly, I follow the "Blizzard" style of editing. It'll get released when it gets released and when I'm ready for it to get released. XD

I do usually have big gaps in editing because of this, but I find that it makes me happier when I actually do sit down and edit. MHMKS got started WAY back in October with storyboarding, I started editing in November, left it alone until late december and then picked it back up/finished it within a week or two in late late December/early Jan.

MEPs, by contrast, I generally "like" to edit them ridiculously before deadlines, although this doesn't always happen.

Generally I have like 2-5 MEP tracks that I work on at once, and one really big project on the backburner and a smaller one just for fun. This is actually the case right now.

Wow, I went around in circles there. >_<

tl;dr: I work on what I want to work on when I want to work on it unless it's for somebody else and a time limit is imposed.

I don't; I agree with more of what Code said. :nose:

I usually see thinking about other projects as a sign of getting bored of the current one I'm editing, so I'll simply stop editing that and go on to another project. When I get inspiration again I go back. If you're not in a rush to get it out, then don't rush the video; it'll turn out like crap if you do that, at least for me.

A combination of deadlines and self-imposed feelings of obligation to meet them.

I force myself to look at my projects every so often. Make myself sit down and say "okay, let's put an hour in." Sometimes I don't get that far, but most of the time that one hour turns into two or three.

That and deadlines/contests are the best motivator for AMVs I think.

For the most part, I'll try to force myself to finish a project before I start another one. I tend to get new ideas in the middle of making a video, and I'll let myself plan them out but, unless there is a deadline that I committed to for the new project, I won't let myself start editing it until I finish the current one.
