Quick conversion question for AMV/Source material

Post by Sephirothskr » Fri Oct 17, 2014 12:13 pm

Say I'm wanting to to convert from one file type to another, which would you say has less quality loss?

ZarxGUI or handbrake? Thanks :) I know handbrake is quick, and zarx takes longer, so I'm not entirely sure. I have a lot of stuff that needs conversion and I would LIKE to have it in good quality.

It depends on the file type that you're trying to use.

Personally, I use VirtualDub to convert to AVI or Zarx to convert to mp4.

I use Zarx for mp4s, but I haven't used it to convert MKV files to mp4 before, so as far as results go on that I wouldn't be able to say anything on that. However avi to mp4 looks pretty good with zarx.

ffmpeg, or the individual encoder itself (x264, x265, opusenc, etc.)

If the footage is for editing, don't use either. Convert to lossless avi with avisynth and VD to get your footage workable, and then encode the final video in zarx. Just follow l33tmeatwad's guide here and you'll be fine
