Question about AMV creation. [re-using the same scenes]

Post by The Wired » Mon May 12, 2003 6:25 am

The Wired here, I had a quick question about AMV creation. I wanted to know if it was, hmm how should I put this... If it was OK to re-use footage in seperate AMV's. Now I know most would think "Same scene twice in a vid?! hell no!" but what i'm saying is in two seperate videos. Like say I have this clip I used in one of my Gundam Vids with Millyardo(sp) Peacecraft blasting away at Heero Yuy, well I wanted to use the same clip for another Gundam Vid I am currently working on. Is that ok? Is it kosher to do that? Would it seem tiring and stretching the creative limits? I dunno.. and that's why I'm asking you Pro's to give me a lil input on the situation.

Another question was does it seem bland when you see the same footage in two differant vids.. theres key action scenes in certain animes that are well used in differant AMV's. Like the action sequence between hellsing and the Preacher guy... I've seen that action sequence in tons of AMV's and I want to be as creative as possible but it's hard to not use some of that footage.. Even if you spice it up a bit with special effects... does it still seem bland? Personally I can't answer any of these questions cuz i'm not to irritated by it. But i'm not here to please just myself in the creation of my AMV's, I want to please the audience as well..

Well any and all input is appreciated, except slander.. lol

I've done that successfully - and more than once. ^_^

Hopefully an editor can figure out if something works for them or not :?

Thanks for the input everyone, much obliged. Oh and thanks for the heads up on my sig, i've been meaning to shrink it down but when I do it messes with the image quality.... i'll do sumthin about that as soon as I can. Well I guess i'll grab a 12 pack of dew and some more smokes and beat myself subconsciously till I think of sumthin to remedy this editor affliction... I hope it's not contagious

Well Omni I can't say i've seen any of your vids... at least not off hand. Now I've seen alot and names of them and who created them don't always stick in my head. There's those chosen few which are forever imprinted into my brain (Everytime I close my eyes i see NHMK flash before my eyes). But yes I do enjoy some dance vids Omni, a vid to Dance Dance Revolution comes to mind.. *omnipotent voice* (Right now someone is reading THIS post!) Whoooaaa! that came from nowhere.... But any ways I think that's cool that you do dance vids.. i'll have to check some out sometime. Any suggestions?

First off, LOVE your avatar! Rufus kicks ass ^_^

Depending on the kind of footage you're using, sometimes repeating scenes in separate AMVs is unavoidable. If you're using game footage or anime movie footage, a lot of times it's necessary to repeat scenes in other AMVs because your variety is limited. For instance, Vampire Hunter D doesn't have the same amount of footage as, say, X (the TV series). So I could understand having to repeat clips in other AMVs.

It's even worse with game footage, because in any given video game there's maybe 30-45 minutes of cutscenes tops (hence why both my Squaresoft vids used the same freaking ending >.<)
